Mrs. Cheryl Baxter
I have been a proud Harrison Husky since 2013. I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 2013. I have the best job. Every day I learn new things with my students. I am passionate about teaching kids to have a growth mindset. My time outside of school is spent with my wonderful family. My husband, Paul and I have 5 great kids. Three of my kids attend Harrison this year. I love a challenge and learned to ride a motorcycle four years ago. I enjoy riding scenic highways a few times a year. The picture above is of my daughter and I in the Toys for Tots Motorcycle Ride in Springfield. Other activities I enjoy are playing and watching sports. I miss baseball season already!
Mrs. Kim Taylor
I LOVE being a Husky! This is my 17th year of teaching, and my 7th year as a Harrison teacher. I graduated Missouri State University for both my Masters and Bachelor’s degree, with my Masters being in Reading. I have taught 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades in Springfield and Kansas City, Missouri. I am LOVING teaching 1st grade, as I’ve spent most of my career in the upper elementary grades. You can ask my students; I get the ‘teacher chills’ almost daily. This is when a child is so excited about what they have learned, that I get goose bumps and am moved to near tears of joy!
I am originally from Kansas City, Missouri and met my husband, Ken Taylor here at Missouri State. Since he is from St. Louis, we spend a lot of our weekends on the road to both cities, or family visits at our house. (But we’ll always be loyal Kansas City Chiefs fans!) We have 4 sensational children! The older two are Husky Alumni, now attending Wilson’s Creek 5th and 6th grades. The youngest are current Huskies in Kindergarten and 1st. Together we love to read, watch movies, camp/backpack, play silly games, travel, and have dance parties.
At the end of an exhausting week, I might joke about getting a job on a cruise ship, but I could never imagine not being a teacher (or being on the ocean that long). Every kiddo that has ever passed through my door has become ‘mine’ because I become their champion and they become mine, filling another corner of my heart. If there is one thing I want every student to learn before leaving my classroom, it’s that mistakes are the portals of discovery!
Mrs. Heather Lashley
Hello! This is my third year at David Harrison Elementary and every year is better than the last! I am so lucky to work with educators that truly put children first. I grew up in Holts Summit, MO which is just outside of Jefferson City. I moved to Springfield to attend college at Drury. I graduated with a degree in biology and psychology in 2001, but returned one year later to complete my elementary education degree. In 2014, I graduated with my Master's in Educational Administration. Prior to teaching at David Harrison, I spent 7 years teaching in Reeds Spring, MO and 5 years teaching at Missouri State University in their Early Childhood Center. Working with children is my passion and I am so blessed to teach young minds daily! In March of 2014, I married the love of my life, Will Lashley. He is a middle school teacher and a coach in Rogersville. Will has two children, Trystin and Aly. I am blessed to be their step-mom. We love to spend our summers on the lake and our winters playing in the snow. The three of them keep me busy watching all of their sporting activities.
