Keeping our Tigers Safe

The Lake Travis Independent School District and West Cypress Hills Elementary School officials encourage parents to remind their children to be aware of their surroundings, not to approach strangers, and to report any suspicious behavior and/or suspicious items to any school employee or local law enforcement immediately.

Tigers, if you see something, say something!

Recent communications were released from the LTISD concerning student safety. The Superintendent's message can be found here, and the messages from the Director of Communications can be found here and here.

If interested in helping, please contact Mrs. Beninga by phone at 512-533-7592 or by email, and sign up for the desired time slot here.

As always, we very much appreciate your help.

A letter from our Kardivas....

Dear West Cypress Hills Student Body and Families,

On behalf of the 5th grade character club, Kardivas (“Kardia” meaning heart, Devoted, Inspired, Virtuous, Authentic, Sisterhood), we would like to extend our heartfelt “THANK YOU!” to the WCH family for helping us conduct a successful fundraiser to assist the Texas victims of the Fall 2017 Hurricane Harvey.

By collecting can openers through the “CAN you OPEN your heart?” drive, our club was able to donate EIGHTY-EIGHT brand new can openers to the Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN), who will now distribute them to the still thousands of families who are displaced from their homes due to extensive flooding. When a natural disaster occurs, it is common for hurting families to receive many cans of food donations, yet still lack common household utensils such as can openers to open them!

Our ADRN point of contact, Ms. Katherine Ellis, was thrilled to receive our school’s generous donation and wants to extend her “thanks,” too! She assures us that these can openers will be put to good use and very much appreciated by those in need. West Cypress Hills, you indeed showed us once again (and to no one’s surprise) that you definitely CAN OPEN your hearts through your generous donations, and - for that - we truly thank you!

Sincerely,

The 2017-2018 WCH 5th Grade Kardivas Club.

West Cypress Hills Names Its Mentor and Volunteer of the Year

West Cypress is very fortunate to have wonderful mentors and volunteers who generously donate their time to support our students and staff members. We'd like to call attention to two special people who have been elected by WCHE staff as our Mentor of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.

Doris Ernst has been serving as one of our mentors since the school opened, and we are very appreciative of her time and efforts. She holds a special place in the hearts of the Tigers that she's supported. We named Doris Ernst our WCHE Mentor of the Year.

Kelly Kodis volunteers to help WCHE staff members, almost, every day. She helps with special projects, she prepares teaching materials for our teachers, and she offers to and is willing to tackle almost any task. We named Kelly Kodis our WCHE Volunteer of the Year.

The Lost & Found is Overflowing!

Have you noticed that you have a lot more closet space than you used to have at your house? If so, maybe it's because we have all of your coats and sweaters and hoodies in our Lost & Found.

With the frequent weather changes we've experienced lately, the Lost & Found has exploded with many very nice coats, sweaters, eyeglasses, lunch boxes, and water bottles. Please be sure to check our Lost & Found for your child(ren)'s belongings before April 20. Unclaimed items will be donated to charity if not claimed by April 20. Thanks!

Share the Joy of Students' Artwork!

Information about purchasing your child(ren)'s artwork from Original Works was sent home with students last week. We are very proud of our students, and I'm sure that you'll agree that they've done a wonderful job creating imaginative and decorative artworks.

Their art projects can be converted into fun and cherished gifts for friends and family, and would make great Mother's Day, Father's Day, and, really, any-reason-at-all-day gifts!

The artwork can be viewed at Original Works, and items using student artwork can be purchased from Original Works through Monday, April 9. Proceeds from sales will be used to purchase Art Class supplies and materials. Instructions, your account number, and student code are shown on the material that we sent home with your child(ren) last week.

Happy shopping!
