Administrator Update
Hello Storm Families,
We are excited to share that we have ordered our Advanced Placement (AP) exams for our students taking AP courses this year. We have over 500 students taking almost 800 exams!! It is a proud tradition that we here at Squalicum have so many students, grades 9-12, taking the exams. Messaging for families regarding paying for AP tests will be coming home soon. We are lucky enough in the Bellingham Public Schools to pay for half of an AP test for every student and getting full coverage for students who qualify through our free-reduced lunch program. We are looking forward to another successful AP exam season in May and we are so ecstatic that so many students have risen to the challenge of taking college-level courses.
On a different note, please be aware that we are heading into winter and if school is open, delayed or closed due to inclement weather, our snow bus routes, and school closures will be communicated to you. If you would like to receive text and/or email alerts you can update your contact preferences within the Skyward Family Access tab by clicking on the Skylert tab. You can also visit www.bellinghamschools.org/skylert . Just a reminder that we monitor the weather closely and will keep you up to date based on the best available information.
Thank you and bundle up!
Katie Jones, Assistant Principal
Veterans Day Assembly
Many thanks to local veteran (and Squalicum parent) Vicky Reardon for being a part of SqHS's Veterans Day assembly by being our guest speaker. Many thanks also to Mr. Bergman's leadership class for researching, planning and presenting an amazing assembly.
Career and College Planning Workshop
Bellingham Public Schools will host Design Your Future, a career planning workshop, 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at Squalicum High School. The evening will be an opportunity for high school students and families to begin thinking about and planning their post-high school years.
Start the evening at 5 p.m. with pizza provided by the Bellingham Public Schools Foundation. The keynote presentation begins at 5:30 p.m. with Tanya Rojas of the Northwest Educational Service District 189 speaking on “Discovering your Passion.”
Following the keynote presentation, three break-out sessions hosted by regional employers and higher education specialists will take place on a variety of topics. Students/families will have an opportunity to attend three breakout sessions. Sessions will include representatives from technical college/community college; DigiPen Institute of Technology; aerospace, engineering, work-based learning programs and apprenticeships; services academies, ROTC, officer training and military service alternatives; and workforce education programs/professional technical programs.
You can also visit break-outs on the ACT and SAT, understanding public college and university admissions, and becoming a college athlete.
See you at Squalicum High on Nov. 19 and start planning your future now!

Storm Riders Club - Helping Students Plan for Beyond High School
If your student is looking for additional support when it comes to making decisions after graduating high school, have them come to the Family Engagement Center on Thursdays 3:15-4:15 for the Storm Rider sessions! This will be designed by the students, for students with support from experienced college students/recent graduates of college. We will bring the content, energy, and food. Students will be able to build confidence, enhance their self-discovery, and be a part of a network that will help them go through the steps to get to where they want to be following graduation.
Although we are wanting to focus on first-generation students (broadly meaning you are the first in your immediate family to be attending high school, college, etc.) everyone is invited to attend.
Any questions? Please feel free to contact us at stormridersclub.sqhs@gmail.com.
