Stone Bank School
Reaching Out ~ October 5, 2018
From Mrs. Davies
The school year is now in full swing. Our students have been busy at work. Recently, we completed the MAP Assessment (Measure of Academic Progress). Results are now available on Skyward. Not sure what the results mean? MAP assessments and grading will be the topic of our next Coffee and Conversation on October 16th at 5:30pm. Please join us!
Following the Coffee and Conversation is our monthly PTO meeting in the library at 6:30pm. All of the current PTO board members are in their last year of office. We are looking for a new team of ambitious parents to take over. Since 2015, our PTO has raised and given back nearly $70,000 to our school. Items like our playground equipment, alternative classroom seating, and our book room would not be possible without the help of our PTO. If you think you might be interested in getting involved, please attend an upcoming meeting to learn more.
Have a good weekend,
Lynn

The Fall Book Fair Is Coming Oct 22-24, 2018
The 2018 Fall Scholastic Book Fair will be held Monday October 22nd through Wednesday October 24th. We will have extended hours during parent teacher conferences on Wednesday Oct 24th!
The Book Fair is a great opportunity for children to come to the library, explore and purchase books at a discounted price from Scholastic.
We will also be participating in the All for Books Coin Challenge this year. All for Books helps raise funds for teachers to purchase much needed books for their classrooms. In addition, Scholastic matches every donation in the coin challenge to give books to children in need.
Please watch for notes home in the near future on the All for Books Coin Challenge. The class that raises the most money during the coin challenge, each child will get a free book valued at $7.00 or less.
The coin challenge will be October 15th-19th more info to follow soon!
As always, in order to have the book fair be open and run smoothly we need volunteers: Please take some time and volunteer. It is fun and easy. The sign up link is below:

Stone Bank School to Celebrate Unity Day
What is Unity Day? It’s a day everyone can come together—in schools, communities, and online—and send one large ORANGE message of support, hope, and unity to show that we are together against bullying and united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.
What are your true colors when it comes to bullying? If you care about safe and supportive schools and communities, make your color ORANGE on Unity Day. Wear ORANGE to school on Wednesday, Oct. 24th. It can be an orange T-shirt, hat, wristband, socks, or even shoelaces.
We encourage staff and students who do not have an orange t-shirt to wear, or are looking for one, to buy a PACER exclusive 2018 UNITY DAY shirt available for $12.00 at represent.com/pacer They do have youth sizes. Order soon to ensure it arrives before Oct. 25th!
Student Council will also have the students sign an ORANGE banner on that day. The banner will be a pledge that we are a school that believes...“Together Against Bullying — United for Kindness, Acceptance, and Inclusion!”
You can find all of this information and much more by visiting www.pacer.org/bullying/nbpm/unity-day.asp

PBIS ~ The Stone Bank Way
We kicked off our school year with our first PBIS assembly on Friday, Sept. 21st. During our assembly we were reminded of how to follow the Stone Bank Way everyday here at school. We had some amazing middle school students that provided our entertainment by performing skits about lunchroom expectations, tattling vs. reporting, and proper hallway behaviors. We also had a three point basketball contest with three teams that consisted of one teacher and one student. Ms. Bolinski and George Scholzen won the competition with George making one basket and Ms. Bolinski sinking two of her three shots!! We pulled names from our raffle that each student can enter when they earn PBIS tickets or Shout Outs. We had 8 winners win McDonald's gift cards! Lastly, we ended our celebration with ICEE's outside! It was a great afternoon.
We wanted to send a VERY BIG THANK YOU to Mr. Nate Zastrow and First Bank Financial Centre in Oconomowoc for donating the funds for us to purchase gift cards for our PBIS Raffles. Without First Bank's generosity this raffle would not be possible. We are very appreciate for such amazing support year after year. THANKS!!!

Zachariah's Acres
Our life skills group enjoyed their first community outing at Zachariah’s Acres! Zachariah’s Acres is a place where kids with special needs and their families can enjoy nature and experience the outdoors. They offer a wide range of activities to do on their 44 acres of land. Our students were able to socialize and enjoy the company of students from Richmond, Lake County and North Lake.
We started our day eating lunch in their accessible tree house surrounded by breath taking scenery. From there we took a tractor ride down to a pond where the students got to learn about the fish they have and go fishing. Fish were abundant, and they even have a “Perch Plunge” to release the fish back into the pond. After that we went on a scavenger hunt to find different types of leaves and used those leaves as paint brushes to decorate a bag. Next on our adventure was a stop by the chickens where everyone had the change to feed and observe the chickens. We ended our day by trying some homemade apple chips…yum! The students had a blast enjoying the beauty of Wisconsin Nature and being out in the great fall weather.
