News from the Music Room
You are invited to join Spencer Singers!
I am pleased to announce that Spencer Singers will once again be offered to 3rd grade students at Spencer Elementary. Spencer Singers is an organization open to 3rd and 4th graders who love singing and performing. During rehearsals, we will get ready with vocal warm ups and work on learning a collection of fun performance songs. The performance calendar for this year is still being developed. We will rehearse each Friday morning before school from 8:00-8:30 a.m. in the music room. This will not interfere with Safety duties. Students should report to the music room (leaving their belongings in the hall) no earlier than 7:50 a.m. The first rehearsal will be Friday, January 14th.
Applications are being sent to all third grade students. There are no auditions or try-outs, but there are a limited number of students who can be accepted. Students will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. The only requirements are that students meet behavior and participation expectations during regular music classes and Spencer Singers rehearsals/events and can be at rehearsals at 8:00 a.m. Students who ride the bus should make other arrangements for transportation on Friday mornings as the buses do not arrive in time to rehearse.
Please e-mail me if you have any questions.
Thanks!

Welcome back from Winter Break! We are glad so many enjoyed the Winter Break Bingo game. Prizes have been ordered and will be distributed next week to those who turned a card in - I think they will like it!
It's a new year and our teachers could use some fresh supplies! Staff have been asked to think of anything they would love in their classroom - from pencils to alternative seating and anything in between that would make their lives easier. We are currently collecting these Wish List items and will make them available via sign-up genius in the next issue of the Scoop.
The kids are having a great time sledding at recess. The PTO purchased 10 new sleds for them today that we hope will last the rest of the winter!
The Family Game Night scheduled for January 26th has been canceled.
Our next PTO Meeting is on schedule for 4pm on Tuesday, January 11. Childcare will be provided. Hope to see you there!
As always, please check out our Facebook page and/or website for the most up to date information this year.

Virtual Library/STEAM Activities for Home!
Many of our students have asked if they can do our library activities at home, and the answer is YES! I create virtual choice boards each month for the students, and they are located on our Library website, along with other activities that we do during their Library/STEAM time each week. If you'd like them to explore at home, you can get to the Library website through the Spencer Elementary website under quick links or directly at http://spencerlsc.weebly.com/library-activities.html. Enjoy!

Note From the Counselor
Counselor Corner!
Happy New Year from your Elementary Counselor, Mrs. McKiddy! We hope you had a well rested, and memory filled, time with your loved ones. For the month of January we are diving into mindfulness, yoga, and other practices that treat the mind, body, and soul. The goal of these lessons is to promote self-regulation and self-reflection in our young learners, as well as to practice a sense of peace and calm during our days.
Lets Connect: If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed here at school.
More Resources: We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home!
