The Kennedy Book Fair
This week is the Kennedy Book Fair. Students can come in at brunch and lunch to browse and purchase books. Many of the classes will visit as well. This year on Thursday, October 10, the Book Fair will be open from 7:00-8:00 pm in the library (following the High School Fair).
If you are able to help with the Book Fair, please sign up using this link:

Fermi Challenge
This past Thursday, Kennedy participated in a Fermi Challenge with their second period class since it was short day. A Fermi Challenge is a question that allows you to figure out an estimation based on data to answer that question. It allows to you to make a prediction of what you think the answer may be before you do calculations and use your data and research to figure out the answer.
Students built balloon powered rockets out of straws, string, balloons, and masking tape. The question they had to investigate, answer, and present was: How long will it take for your balloon powered rocket to travel the radius of the earth?
Below are some resources used from our day, including a student-friendly video and article that provided some extra learning about the first person in outer space. Thank you to 6th Grade Science Teacher, Kelly Jorgensen, and Technology Coach, Kathryn Marinos, for putting this all together. Also below are some pictures.

Extra Time On Assignments
This policy that we are piloting will provide students some cushion if they truly need help on an assignment and it takes a couple of times to complete the assignment with help. (We are seeing in the mornings at Breakfast Club students mostly need math support and sometimes it takes more than one session to get an assignment complete since it takes time to learn and practice concepts). This new policy also provides some relief when students have too much homework in one night and/or a lot of after school activities and can't get the work done without staying up really late.
