The SAT with Essay, which covers English language arts (reading and writing) and mathematics, is required for every New Hampshire 11th grader. The school-wide testing date is March 22, 2023. Click here for a letter regarding the free SAT Prep course being offered this year at SHS.

Grading and Reporting Updates

It's hard to believe that the end of Semester 1 is upon us. Semester 1 ended on Thursday, January 19, which was also the deadline for students to turn in work. Grades for semester-long courses are final and full-year courses remain rolling through the end of the year. Progress Reports for Semester 1 will be available via PowerSchool by 3pm on Thursday, January 26.

Meet the wonderful and talented staff members of SHS!

What is your role at Souhegan?

Student Learning Coordinator (this includes being ELO Coordinator and Learning Commons Coordinator)

How long have you been with Souhegan?

This is my 12th year at Souhegan.

What do you love about your job?

I love working at a school that has so many opportunities for the adults and students to get involved. Anyone who wants a say in decisions really can have a say.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I start every day with one hour of exercise because I have a lot of energy! After school I spend my time reading and watching almost every one-hour drama on HBO because I like TV shows that I really have to pay attention to. On the weekends and over vacations I love traveling, trying new restaurants and bakeries (I love frosting), and reading even more.

If you were given one wish what would it be?

I know this is pretty cliché, but I'd wish for a bunch of money. I know money can't buy happiness, but it would be pretty cool not to worry about the price of things!

Senior Year Notes

Senior Project News

Last Tuesday, January 10 seniors met with their panels for the Applied Piece Proposal checkpoint. At this meeting seniors presented their plans for applying their research and received feedback from their panel members. We heard a wide variety of interesting and creative plans for application of research and are excited to see our seniors' final work! If a senior was marked incomplete for this checkpoint they were given specific instructions as to what they need to do in order to complete this important step in the process. Off-campus privileges will be rescinded on Wednesday, January 25 for any students who have not completed their Applied Piece Proposal checkpoint by this date. Please check in with your child about their progress and contact Kathy Maddock and Ryan Lemieux, senior project coordinators, with any questions or concerns.

NCC “Express Admissions Day”

On January 30, an admissions representative will meet with interested seniors to apply and receive an admissions decision immediately. The appointments take approximately 15 minutes. Please register for an appointment with Michelle in Student Services or with your counselor.

Community Council

The SHS Community Council has been doing work in committees to prepare for Fang Fest, examine graduation requirements, revise our student handbook, and come up with fundraising ideas. Our next meeting will be Monday, January 23rd from 3:00-3:45 in the Info Center.

Project Graduation

SHS Parents! It is time to start planning Project Graduation for our class of 2023! Project Graduation is an event held directly after graduation ceremonies for the newest SHS alumni. There are a lot of fun activities and it is a wonderful chance for the graduates to hang out with their class one last time before their adventures take them elsewhere! Most importantly, it is a drug-free event and parents can be assured their children are getting home safe and sound on graduation night. All grade-level parents can participate in the planning! The only caveat is that Senior parents cannot attend the event. This is your time to kick back, relax, and celebrate your job well done! Our first meeting is Monday, 1/23, at 7 pm via Zoom. The link is below. Come learn about Project Graduation and get involved! If the SHS community values this event, we need some younger grade families to become involved as many on the committee have their youngest graduating--an exciting, but bittersweet, time for us. If you have any questions, please email Lisa Eastland at lmm.eastland@gmail.com. See you then!

JOIN THE FLOCK!!

Souhegan High School will be participating in the Penguin Plunge February 11th at Hampton Beach to benefit Special Olympics NH. Did you know that Special Olympics strives to create a better world by fostering the acceptance and inclusion of all people? Through the power of sports, people with intellectual disabilities discover new strengths and abilities. Athletes find joy, confidence, and fulfillment — on the playing field and in life. They inspire their communities to open their hearts to a wider world of human talents and potential. The donations we collect will go to support this important work!

You can get involved in 2 ways:

  1. Join our flock by registering at https://fundraising.sonh.org/event/hs-penguin-plunge and start collecting donations. If you’re not able to make the plunge on Feb 11th in person, you can make the plunge your own with a DIY kit!

  2. Donate to the Souhegan High School Flock https://fundraising.sonh.org/fundraisers/souheganhs
