Six Teachers Renew National Certification Status
Two Florence 1 Teachers, Alexandra Sirbu-Green and Wade Hicks, both of Savannah Grove Elementary School, have achieved National Board Certification status. Green and Hicks join seventy-nine educators in the state, representing 30 school districts, who recently earned National Board Certification (NBC).
Six Florence 1 teachers have renewed their national certificates. They are Debra Bryant, Carver Elementary; Casey Coker, Briggs Elementary; Michelle Hayes, Southside Middle; Catherine Sanderson, Child Development Center at Woods Road; Carla Summersett and Kimberly Cimney, West Florence High. They join 513 NBCTs from 59 school districts who renewed their national certificates, bringing South Carolina’s total number of NBCTs to 9,125.
According to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, South Carolina remains one of the nation’s leading states for the total number of National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs).
Teachers seeking NBC participate in a two-part process that takes from one to three years to complete. The process requires candidates to reflect on their classroom practices, assess their understanding of subject material and examine their preparation techniques. In addition to preparing a portfolio with recordings of classroom teaching, lesson plans, student work samples and reflective essays, teachers must complete assessment center exercises to prove they have mastered the subjects they teach and also possess the skills to teach them.
Accounts to SchooLinks Made Available to High School Parents This Week
Florence 1 School has launched SchooLinks, a college and career readiness platform that helps students plan for their future. All parents of high school students are encouraged to check their e-mail to locate a document that contains parent login information and how to login to SchooLinks. If there are concerns about the log in, parents should email support@schoolinks.com for assistance or contact the local high school.
