Santa Clara Clarion
Weekly Staying Connected, September 18
Last Sunday, the pictured soldier played Taps beautifully at Gladys College's Celebration of Life. After holding out his last note, he proceeded to march down the aisle to meet another officer. At that point they unfolded and folded a United States flag with such precision and grace. They then presented the flag to the family. Strangely enough, the way they folded that flag, was very touching. You could just feel that they were there to recognize Gladys' service and every movement they made was to honor her.
In just five minutes the soldiers made an impact on the room. You can tell that they trained specifically to do this task and took it seriously. What are we doing with our time? Are our words, movements, thoughts determined to bring honor and glory to God? Help us Lord to impact the world with the minutes we have.
For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ Acts 17:28

September 21 (Wed) – SA Justice Webinar 11am PST/2pm EST
Spiritual Abuse & Human Trafficking – We know that faith can be an incredibly healing, motivating experience. Unfortunately, traffickers also recognize this power of faith and can exploit it for more power and control. In this session we will explore the ways in which traffickers have manipulated and abused religion to exploit others AND how we can intentionally work to counteract spiritual abuse and avoid re-traumatization. This webinar will be approx. 60 mins and will be recorded. Registration Link: https://sajustice.us/webinars/
September 25th – Annual Day of Prayer for Victims of Human Trafficking
The Salvation Army is deeply committed to fighting and responding to modern slavery and human trafficking. We have a theological and historical mandate. We believe prayer is foundational and an essential, powerful tool to fight for freedom and work towards a world free from exploitation. This year’s theme is Beyond the Dark, inspired by John 10:10 NIV. This is an Internationally recognized and mandated observance. Resources in English, Spanish, Portuguese & other languages can be found here.
