RTI
Professional Development Workshop
Lets start with the basics...
What is RTI? RTI (Response to Intervention) is a three level approach to the early identification and support of students with learning and behavior needs.
Essential Elements
Universal screening - Screening children within the general curriculum.
Tiered instruction - that increases in intensity as they progress.
Evidenced-based interventions - decided by research of effective approaches.
Progress monitoring - close monitoring of student improvement in the classroom.
Informed decision making - based on individual students.
Response to Intervention: A Tiered Approach to Instructing All Students
The Three Tiers
Tier I - Differentiated Instruction
Students receive general classroom instruction that is differentiated and utilizes research-based materials (assessments).
Tier II - Supplemental Interventions
Students receive targeted instruction in smaller groups with the focus on progress monitoring (more frequent).
Tier III - Explicit Individualized Instruction
Students that have not shown improvement after tier I and tier II intervention, receive special individualized instruction from special education teachers.
