PreK

We are continuing our study of giants. Our topic this week is giants made by people. We will look at skyscrapers, bridges, trains, and roller coasters. Our letter this week is Jj, our number is 9, and our shape is octagon.-Mrs. Vasquez

Kindergarten

Hi Parents, We are so proud of the Kinder Kids! We have a few reminders. Label everything you can: jackets, backpacks, supplies, and water bottles. Send the students with filled water bottles every day, the water fountains are not operational because of Covid. We will start a new unit in math this week, numbers 11-15. Please practice counting and sight words whenever possible. Students may go back into old folders on Schoology to review. Have a great week!

1st Grade

This week we are working on sight words and spelling patterns "th" and "wh". We are also learning about proper nouns and reading lots of stories! In math, we are continuing our subtraction unit and in social studies we are learning about the first Thanksgiving and the pilgrims. This week in science we will finish up our unit on energy and motion and take our CBA over what we have been learning. 1st Grade Team

2nd Grade

In math we will be reviewing 2-digit and 3-digit subtraction. Our test over subtraction will be on Friday. Please make sure that we are on time to take our test. -Ms. Lester

This week students are continuing to study energy and forces. We will be investigating magnetism and patterns of movement! I will be at a conference Thursday (11/5) and Friday (11/6) - there will be no live zoom classes on these days. Students will need to complete all work assigned in Schoology. This week we will be working on making inferences while we read. We will be working on story structure with beginning, middle, and end using a plot diagram. We will be spelling words with the k, ck sounds. Students should be reading for at least 20 minutes each day! --Ms. Brown

This week we will be learning the long A patterns (ai, ay, a-e). Our story of the week is “A Crow, a Lion, and a Mouse! Oh My!” We will focus on story structure and making mental images. For writing, we will learn our verbs in past, present, and future tense. Be ready for a quiz on the story and weekly assessment on Friday! -Ms. B.Martinez

3rd Grade

This week we will be working on spelling words with the ch sound. We will be starting our unit on plays and learning about the different parts of a play. Students will have opportunities to take on the role of a character in a play! All students should be reading for at least 20 minutes each day! -Ms. Brown

4th Grade

We will be starting a new reading unit called “Heroic Feats.” This will include informational and fiction texts. In writing, we will be studying transition words. There will be a spelling test on Friday!-Mrs. Driver

This week students are continuing to study electricity - conductors, insulators, and circuits. We will be making real-world connections on how we use them in our daily lives. We are still working through our division unit. This week we will be solving one-step and multi-step division problems. -Ms. McCaig

5th Grade

In science this week the students are expected to differentiate between weather and climate(5.8A). Weather can be observed each day, whereas climate must be observed over time.In social studies we will be studying a Quaker family's escape from religious persecution. Imagine a little girl named Mary Alice who was only 11 years old when her family left England to settle in the colony of Pennsylvania. What would life in the new world be like for her family?-Mr. Walton

We have been working on pulling out text evidence from a passage and answering questions using our reading and test strategies. We have been studying writing a narrative essay and answering a STAAR writing prompt while staying on topic and following the proper structure of an essay with punctuation, capitalization, and proper grammar. We have also been working in writing on identifying the proper use of homophones such as you, you're, there, their and they're in a sentence. We will be taking our CBA (Curriculum Based Assessment) this week on Thursday. Progress reports are coming out very soon, please make sure your student has all missing work caught up, that they are attending classes with their camera on, and coming to class on time. We have covered the procedure every week of how to check for missing work by going to my course and clicking on the grades tab on the left-hand side of the page. We are moving along in our fraction unit. We will be adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with unlike denominators. We'll use online fraction strips but also use the mathematical methods learned in class. Please check to make sure your child is completing all assignments in Schoology. Don't forget ALEKS as well as each child needs 10 topics each week.
