SCHOOL VALUE THIS TERM: 'TO BE RESPECTFUL'
These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'respectful'.
TE REO FOCUS FOR THE WEEK
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
So what did we get up to this term? Well, as is normal at Vogeltown we try and give as many experiences as we can for our learners - Term 2 was no exception, especially under 'orange settings'.
We were able to:
* Have a successful mountain biking whakamatau each Friday
* We have had a successful first meeting with the ERO team
* We had a very successful Spellathon
* We have had great fun with our city cousins in sports exchanges - Central School, West End and Woodleigh
* We had a great 'Pink shirt day'
* We have had awesome whole school and syndicate assemblies
* Our Class Reps went to Palmerston North for the 'Young Leaders conference'
* We had 2 great whanau events - Gumboot Throw and Tug o War
* We had the Life Education truck here with Megan and Harold the giraffe
* We had another successful 'School open night'
* Our Jump Jam were awesome at the Mountainairs basketball game!
* We had a great time planting trees in the domain with Bill
* We had a meke Dads and Daughters breakfast for Matariki (and then planted trees along the junior driveway)
* We celebrated our school birthday
* We had a great Home and School bingo night
And all the while, we continued the wonderful progress of learning in our classes!
A big thanks to all our coaches who took teams this term, we can not offer sports at Vogeltown without your help, ka mau te wehi!
Today we say goodbye to Miss Elly Fleming who has taken a teaching position at Shotover Primary in Queenstown. We will be giving Elly a typical Vogeltown farewell at our Vogeltowner assembly this afternoon. We wish Elly and her partner Ed all the best for their next chapter! All of our Room 8 parents/caregivers have met with their new teacher, Miss Celeste McLean, who begins next term.
A big thanks to the Vogeltown staff/team for this term! The Vogeltown teaching family are dedicated, professional and continue to provide a learning focused culture and keep Vogeltown School as a high functioning whanau - thanks team.
We hope you all enjoy the next couple of weeks to catch up with your families and whanau and spend the time with your child(ren). We will see you all back here on Monday 25th July ready to rip in to another awesome term!
Nga mihi nui Vogeltown whanau,
Mr O and the VS team
PROGRESS REPORTS - TERM 2 2022
By now you will have received your child(ren)s Progress report for Term 2. These reports give you an indication of how your child is progressing in maths, reading and writing - our foundation curriculum skills for learning.
Also on the Progress report you will have seen on the top part of the report, an indication of how your child is going against our IROCK school values - being Inclusive, Respectful, Original, Courageous and Kind. These of course can change over time.
In Week 2 of next term we will be having 'Learning Conferences' with your child(ren)s Kaiako. This Progress report will be talked about at their conference and learning goals for Term 3 will be set. The link for Learning Conferences will be sent out to everyone on day one of Term 3. It will again be booked through our school app 'Skool Loop'. We always try to get 100% attendance to these conferences.
OVER THE TERM BREAK
Over the term break, the property work will continue at Vogeltown. We will be making some big changes in the junior school and getting ready to put the big glass sliding doors between each room and in to the corridors.
As such, there may be some disruption to the junior school at the beginning of term 3 and throughout, however we are going to try and keep these disruptions to a minimum for our staff and learners.
Both school sites will also be receiving a IT upgrade over the term break. This includes new wifi access points, some new cabling and new switches to keep our IT infrastructure up to date with all the devices we now have and with all our online learning we can offer.
It is great to be able to maintain Vogeltown School with such awesome 'future focused' property work and to be able to offer world class educational environments and learning resources.
SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS 2022
WHANAU TUG O WAR
We had our second whanau event for the school yesterday! We were very lucky with the weather! It was another great whanau effort with lots of grunt and strength shown by all teams! A big thanks to Miss Fleming for organising this event again.
The Whanau points for the term are below with the IROCK tokens also in the count. Tu Meke to Kakariki and Karaka who took out an equal first place in the Tug O War yesterday!
WHANAU POINTS UPDATE T2 2022
COVID-19 UPDATE AT VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - WEEK 10, TERM 2
This week has been a lot better for winter ills and chills than the previous 2 weeks. Our average attendance for this term has been at 85.0%. This week the average attendance has also been at 85%. We are still seeing a lot of flu and colds in the school and within the community.
Covid cases are on the rise within NZ and the new Omicron variant (BA.5) may be a lot more transmissible. There has been a lot of chatter between schools and communities about masks coming back in to schools and whether we will move to red setting if we see more and more covid cases pop up. We will let you know as soon as we know of any of these changes through our normal communication channels.
Please remember we are still in a pandemic and we must continue to keep being vigilant with hand washing and keeping safe.

This year we did not get to keep the rock and Woodleigh took it back across the river to their kura. Aside from the results, we had an awesome day and all games were played in great spirits with awesome fairplay shown from all of our Vogeltown learners and Woodleigh School.
The results were:
