What's Happening in 4th Grade!
Students are expanding their geometry vocabulary! We learned that equilateral triangles have three equal sides, isosceles triangles have two equal sides, and scalene triangles have no equal sides. We have also been learning about symmetry and measuring area of shapes this week. Students are creating their own symmetrical designs and using pattern blocks to find the area. Keep your eyes open for shapes and symmetry in your environment!
January 16 & 17 - Half-days for students. Dismissal will be at 11:25 a.m. on both of those days. Students will be able to purchase bag lunches from the cafeteria on these days.
January 20 - Martin Luther King Holiday
January 21 - Teacher workday
January 23 - Fourth Grade midyear math assessment
January 31 - Sports Day - Students are encouraged to wear a shirt or jersey from a favorite sports team or from a team of their own.
As we began our new science unit, we tapped into our background knowledge about weather.
Ready, Set, Go!
We learned about surface tension by having water drop races. Water droplets grow as they bump into other water droplets. We used straws to blow the drops across the finish line.
Water molecules like to stick together. In clouds, they stick together until they are too heavy. Then, it rains!
