Registration
To complete the process, go to https://sis.powayusd.com, log into your ParentVUE account, and choose Online Registration, Continuing Student Registration, and then complete the process.
This is NOT about Course Requests and will not affect your student's CRF or course selections unless they do not start school in August.
Enrollment
Enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year is open.
For families who already have students in the district, or who were previously in the district, you will use your parent log-in for the process. If you can’t remember your password or username, you can retrieve or reset them at https://password.powayusd.com. Families who will be new to Poway Unified will create a log-in during the process.
The district shows 5 learning options for students, but there are actually only 2 options for high school. They can be on campus full time, or they can enroll with New Directions, which offers independent study. With either option, your student can opt to take Poway Virtual Courses in conjunction. If you would like your student to be virtual next year, you will choose New Directions. Students who choose Poway High and Poway Virtual Courses, will have to be on campus for at least 3 classes per day. You can find more information on our Instagram post: https://www.instagram.com/p/COTBaeunFlu/?igshid=1kr1dlwl8o8gf. New Directions students will still have Poway High listed as their school on their transcript and they will be allowed to participate in our sports teams and clubs.
Documents you will need for enrollment:
1. Birth Certificate
2. 2 Proofs of Residence
3. Valid Parent ID
4. Immunization Records
5. Transcript of all high school courses taken, or most recent 8th grade report card if your student is still in 8th grade
6. If your student has an IEP or 504, you will need your most recent copy of the plan.
The computer gives you an option to turn in paperwork at a later time, but I want to give you a heads up that any documents missing from the online submission will hold up the enrollment process, so you will need to turn them in as soon as possible.

Class of 2023, Career and College Planning Resources
When you think about your plans after high school, there are many different options. You could immediately start in the workforce, decide the Military is your path, enjoy a gap year, begin a trade school program, attend a two-year community college, and/or choose a four-year college/university. The Career and College Planning 101 presentation briefly reviews each option for you. As we head into the summer months, you may continue exploring these options, or you may say to yourself, how do I get started? Your journey can start by researching different career options, gathering online information, creating a college list, getting a job or internship, and/or asking questions to those around you about their career paths. We've listed a few resources below to help you with this process. Last, but least, remember to enjoy the journey, take a deep breath, and know that you've got this!
How do I get started?
- Xello - explore careers and colleges. Every student has a username and password. Email ITHELP@powayusd.com for technical assistance.
- Collegeboard - create your college roadmap
- The ASVAB Program can help with career exploration. Taking the ASVAB does NOT commit a student to enlist in the military.
- Building Your College List worksheet
- Attend College Visits in Fall 2022
- Attend PUSD College & Career Fair Fall 2022
- In-person or virtual college campus tours

SAT/ACT Test Policy for College Admissions Fall 2022
You may be asking, with so many changes, what should I do about the SAT/ACT I took? Whether you decide to submit your scores or not, the decision is completely up to you. If you did really well, and feel your scores will help your application, then you should submit them. If you are not happy with your test scores or if you were unable to take the exams, then many colleges will accept you without scores, and you do not have to submit them. Remember that your college apps are where you want to put your best foot forward! Here's an article by CollegeWise with helpful information along with more resources below to help you with this decision.

Student Safety and Well Being
We all want what’s in the best interest of our children so being well informed about substance use is critical when we discuss this, possibly life changing, decision. A new study has found that once a state legalizes recreational marijuana, residents are more likely to start using it, even those below the legal age of 21, according to a new study
( https://www.eurekalert.org/news-releases/952852 )
Researchers at the University of California, San Diego studied more than 6,900 youths ages 12 to 20, as well as almost 15,000 adults, using a national database. Participants were from four states with legal recreational marijuana (California, Massachusetts, Nevada and Maine); 11 states with medical marijuana; and 17 states that prohibit marijuana use.
“Our findings provide useful information in understanding the consequences of legalizing recreational cannabis,” lead researcher Yuyan Shi said in a news release. “It’s especially concerning that increased cannabis use occurs among young people because of the detrimental health effects associated with cannabis use at a young age, including impaired respiratory function, cardiovascular disease, and adverse effects on mental health.”

The teen and young adult years are confusing, complicated and formative. Understanding what's happening socially and developmentally — and how it can intersect with substance use — is fundamental to setting the stage for healthier outcomes.
