World Language Selection
Please Select a World Language Option for Grades 5-8
January 19, 2023
Dear 4th Grade Parents and Guardians,
Although we are just halfway through the school year, we are already actively planning for our 23-24 school year. Your child will commit to studying a world language for 5th – 8th grade; that chosen language will become a key part of his/her overall Deer Path Middle School experience. This year, your child either studied Spanish or Mandarin (Cherokee only). You have the option of continuing in that language or selecting another language (current options are Spanish, French, Latin or Mandarin).
During the week of January 17, 2023, 4th graders will have an opportunity to be introduced to all four languages through a video presentation during their World Language class. We are asking that parents/guardians also view the video in order to help choose the best language for their child.
We are asking that you make your selection using the World Language Selection Form by Monday, January 30. If you do not respond, your child will be placed in a language based on availability. We truly believe all of our languages will provide a rich, valuable and intercultural learning experience.
We ask that your family considers this decision very carefully since our class sections are decided by these numbers. Please note that the district runs a staffing process and builds the master schedule based on final placement decisions in February. Therefore, we are asking families to rank their language choices. We will do our best to honor your first choice.
Please note that students who receive support services may be pulled from World Language. If this applies to your child, you will be notified in advance.
