A NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents,
Happy February! Because we are approaching Valentine’s Day I thought it would be appropriate to write about just a few of the recent acts of kindness that have taken place this week. We have amazing kids at Howard and one amazing kid is Adryanna Sellers. She always steps up to lend a hand to our cafeteria manager, Rochelle Tryling. On the days Rochelle is shorthanded Adryanna carefully lays out all of the kindergarten lunch cards. Thank you Adryanna for being a fabulous hornet!
Also this week, we had a student come to the office after her morning bus ride to report that she overheard a student saying very unkind words to another student on her bus. She did this because she felt bad for the student who was being made fun of and this student was not advocating for himself so she felt she should tell an adult. This was such a kind decision. We are so glad you are a hornet!
Our Student Council has been selling lollipops to raise money to buy Easter Baskets for those less fortunate. They have raised $250.00 so far. The best part of this act of kindness is the way our children have responded to the idea of buying a gift for a classmate, or in some cases, someone they want to make sure they say Happy Valentine’s Day to.
This is a normal week at Howard. We see our kids making kind gestures toward others each day. Often these actions get overlooked as we go through our busy week. I encourage all of us to slow down and take a moment to appreciate the little things.

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Hello! The last few weeks I have been visiting the kindergarten and first grade classrooms to talk about honesty! In Kindergarten we read the story "Berenstain Bears and the Truth." After we read the story, the students learned a new song about cookies. We then played a game about telling the truth, and ended the lesson with a cookie treat. In first grade we read the story "Franklin Fibs." The students colored an honesty flower and we did an experiment to see if lies really cover up the truth, or if the truth always shines through. Make sure to ask your student what happened at the end of our experiment! I look forward to visiting the second, third and fourth grade classrooms in the next few weeks!
A quick reminder to all fifth and sixth grade students and parents: Manners Meal will take place on Tuesday, February 20th during lunch and recess. I am still in need of volunteers. Let me know if you would like to help out!
