The word Carnevale means "farewell to meat" which is referring to the tradition Christian fasting of Lent, which Carnival season takes two days before.


Veronese Carnival

Veronese carnival is the oldest carnival in Italy dating back to 1531th. This Carnival started because of a shortage of food and prices rising causing poverty and starvation in Italy. From the help of a noble man named Tommaso Da Vico who bought flour for the poor people to make gnocchi help the matter of starvation. Gnocchi is small roundish balls of pasta which is quite filling.
