HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
PLC Concepts & Terminology We Should All Be Familiar With
Clarity Precedes Competence
What is a PLC?
“An ongoing process in which educators work collaboratively in recurring cycles of collective inquiry and action research to achieve better results for the students they serve” (Dufour et al., 2016 p.10).
What are the 3 Big Ideas?
A Focus on Learning - The fundamental purpose of the school is to ensure that all students learn at high levels (grade level or higher).
A Focus on Collaboration - Educators must work collaboratively and take collective responsibility for the success of each student.
Definition of a Collaborative Team - A group of educators whose members work interdependently to achieve common goals for which members are mutually accountable.
Working together to build shared knowledge on the best way to achieve goals and meet the needs of those they serve is exactly what professionals in any field are expected to do.
A Focus on Results - Collaborative teams focus on results - evidence of student learning.
Collaborative teams use evidence of student learning to inform and improve their professional practice and respond to individual students who need intervention or enrichment.
A focus on results leads each team to develop and pursue measurable improvement goals (SMART goals) for learning that align with school and district goals.
Frequent common formative assessments represent one of the most powerful tools in the PLC arsenal.
Based on Learning by Doing, (Dufour, Dufour, Eaker, Many, and Mattos, 2016).
