EEE Student Council Elections
Information About Student Council Elections
October 20, 2023
Dear East End 3rd, 4th and 5th Graders and Parents,
We are very excited about beginning our East End Student Council this year. We have had some awesome experiences with our Student Council in the past. So, we are ready to get started! We have some great things in store for our East End students in grades 3, 4, and 5 through our Student Council. Our desire is to make this the best year ever with our EEE Student Council. We want to make an impact at East End and in the local community, as well. We will include all three upper grades at East End in our EEE Student Council. We are looking for some great East Enders to step up to serve! Our Election Day will be on Tuesday, November 7th with the campaign being November 6 – 27th. A total of 35 students will be elected to serve in grades 3, 4, and 5. (14 fifth graders, 11 fourth graders, and 10 third graders.) This will be a great way for our East Enders to learn about service and commitment in their role as members of the EEE Student Council.
Students in grade 5 are eligible for the following offices:
President
Vice-President
Secretary
Treasurer
Public Relations Officer
Homeroom Representatives (three students are elected in each homeroom to meet with the Student Council each month as a representative from each homeroom after the election on Tuesday, November 28th.)
Fourth graders are eligible to serve in the following offices:
Junior Vice-President
Fourth Grade Senators (two students to be elected by the entire fourth grade to serve as officers of the Student Council)
Homeroom Representatives (Two are elected in each homeroom to meet with the Student Council each month as a representative from each homeroom)
Third graders are eligible to serve in the following offices:
Third Grade Senators (two to be elected by the entire third grade to serve as officers of the Student Council. Homeroom Representatives (Two are elected in each homeroom to meet with the Student Council each month as a representative from each homeroom.) These elections will take place as soon as each position is filled through the election.
Fifth grade officers (President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Public Relations Officer) are elected by the fifth graders after an assembly with the 5th grade student body and parents who would like to join us for the speeches. We will hold our elections through online voting with their Chromebooks. Once school officers are elected, homeroom representatives will be elected in each homeroom. Speeches will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28th.
Fourth grade officers (Junior Vice-President and Fourth Grade Senator) will be elected by the fourth grade after an assembly with 4th graders and parents who would like to join us for the speeches. We will also hold our elections through online voting with their Chromebooks. Once fourth grade officers are elected, homeroom representatives will be elected in each 4th grade homeroom. Speeches will take place at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28thh.
Third grade officers (Third Grade Senators) will be elected by the third grade after an assembly with 3rd graders and parents who would like to attend. We will also hold this election through online voting with their Chromebooks. Once the Third Grade Senator is elected, homeroom representatives will be elected in each homeroom. Speeches will take place on Tuesday, November 28th at 8:15 a.m. in the cafeteria.
In the event of a very close run-off election for any major office, the administration reserves the right to appoint an At-Large Officer to serve with the grade level whose election was very close in voting after a run-off election.
Our East End Student Council will meet on the 2nd Friday of each month with the exception of
February, which will take place on the third Friday from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Our first official meeting will be Friday, December 8th. We will have a Christmas party on Thursday, December 14th from 3:00 – 3:45 p.m. Attendance at our monthly meetings on the second Friday each month at 3:00 is a requirement for holding an office.
Students are allowed to place one poster (regular poster size) in the hallways announcing their campaigns beginning Monday, November 11th. Prior to the campaign, all students interested in one of the offices must complete the Student Council application noting their desire and reasons for service. These are due to me no later than Monday, November 6th. Applications must be received by November 6th in order to participate in the elections to give time to prepare for this year’s elections and speech assemblies. Late applications will not be accepted. We want this to be almost a “no cost” election. So, there are no handouts, prizes, or things that can be shared for the campaign. The poster and the student’s speech on November 28th are all that is required. The speech must be 3 minutes or less. We ask that all speeches be submitted in writing by Monday, November 13th. In order to remain in the campaign, speeches must be received by November 13th Late speeches will not be accepted. We’ll have a quick “dress rehearsal” on Monday, November 27th.
We are looking forward to a wonderful year with our EEE Student Council! If you have any questions, please let me know.
Campaign applications will be distributed at school beginning Tuesday, October 24th. They are due back to the school no later than Monday, November 6th. We ask that students first discuss with their parents to determine if they are able to participate in our meetings the second Friday afternoon each month (with the exception of February, which will be on the 3rd Friday.) With the parents’ approval, they are able to get an application from their homeroom teacher.
Sincerely,
Tammy Day, principal
