College Visit: An Opportunity to Meet with a College Admissions Counselor
These College Visits are all listed on Family Connection. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet with a college admission representative and ask questions about the college, application process, housing, scholarships, and more.
In order to attend one of these visits, students must register through Family Connection. To access Family Connection, visit the School Counseling website, and click on the link to family connection. Your Family Connection username is your student number and password is the student's 8-digit birthdate - mmddyyyy (for example: 09101999).
Students who are unable to attend a particular visit or have trouble login to Family Connection, please stop by the counseling office and see Ms. Flores, for more information.
Free Money $$ to Pay for College / Scholarships
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)/ Financial Aid Completion Program
In order to help our seniors students and parents we will have a Financial Aid Completion Day on October 27, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. at Forest Park High School.
This will be a great opportunity to work on your FAFSA and submit with the assistance and help of a Financial Aid Counselor from NOVA. Please mark your calendars and if you are interested on participating, please send an email to Ms. Flores, at: floresjd@pwcs.edu.
Workshop: Paying for College
There will be a workshop about Paying for College on October 20th from 7 pm-8:30 pm at the Kelly Leadership Center.
The scariest part of college planning is cost. Parents often delay savings for college because they are unsure about being able to save enough and are unaware of what resources may be available. The goal of this segment is to educate parents about resources such as 529 college savings plans, scholarships, and the GI Bill. The workshop is being offered by the PWCS DoDEA Military Grant.
SAT & ACT Information Center
Students if you are planning to attend a 4-year college or university after high school, it is very important that you take the SAT and/or ACT, since it is one of the many factors considered in college admissions.
You could register online for the SAT at: www.collegeboard.org and
to register for the ACT, visit: www.actstudent.org
Both tests offer free online test preparation materials. Additional books & resources are also available at our School's Career Center, which is located in the counseling office. Students eligible for Free/Reduced lunch you could also be eligible for a test fee waiver. If you have any questions or need assistance, stop by and see Ms. Flores, in counseling.

Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Seminar (HOBY)
Tenth Grade Students are invited to apply to attend the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar. The HOBY Seminar is designed to help high school sophomores to recognize their leadership talents and apply them to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace and community. The seminar curriculum is based on the Social Change Model of Leadership and develops leadership from three perspectives: Personal Leadership, Group Leadership, and Leadership for Society.
One selected student will have the opportunity to attend a three-day seminar and participate in hands-on leadership activities, meet leaders in their state, and explore their own personal leadership skills while learning how to lead others and make a positive impact in their community. The seminar will take place on June 2-4, 2017 at James Madison University.
In order to apply:
1. Submit a copy of your resume. Please make sure to note your leadership experience in your resume.
2. Submit a short essay (75-100 words) that describes the most rewarding and challenging aspect of being a leader in your school and community.
Please submit the above components to Mrs. Young in the Counseling office no later than November 10, 2016.
