STUDENT COURSE REGISTRATION FOR 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR
NSHS Students will register for all 2018-2019 NSHS courses on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal after discussing course options with family and teachers. Teachers in core areas will make recommendations for the 2018-2019 school year in Infinite Campus sometime in January. Students will then have grade level assemblies to discuss the scheduling process, course information, and exciting new NSHS pathways. School counselors will meet with all students after registration has ended.
It is important to note that courses will be offered pending sufficient enrollment and availability of staff. Students who have selected a course that is cancelled, should have made alternate requests in the event the selected class is not offered or does not fit into the schedule.
Spring 2018 College Coffee Hours
The NSHS School Counselors will be hosting three sessions of “College Coffee Hour” for parents in the spring of 2018. Each session will take place in the High School Guidance Office from 7:30-8:15 AM. These sessions are intended to give parents going through the college search process an opportunity to meet with school counselors and ask questions. We also welcome parents who have been through the process before to come and share their experiences with parents who have not been through the process. Topics will be discussed at each session and afterwards, there will be time for questions. If you would like to attend, please RSVP via this link:

Career of the Day
Environmental Scientists and Specialists
What Environmental Scientists and Specialists Do
Environmental scientists and specialists use their knowledge of the natural sciences to protect the environment and human health. They may clean up polluted areas, advise policymakers, or work with industry to reduce waste.
Environmental scientists and specialists work in offices and laboratories. Some may spend time in the field gathering data and monitoring environmental conditions firsthand. Most environmental scientists and specialists work full time.
How to Become an Environmental Scientist or Specialist
Environmental scientists and specialists need at least a bachelor’s degree in a natural science or science-related field for most entry-level jobs.
The median annual wage for environmental scientists and specialists was $68,910 in May 2016.
Employment of environmental scientists and specialists is projected to grow 11 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations. Heightened public interest in the hazards facing the environment, as well as the increasing demands placed on the environment by population growth, is expected to spur demand for environmental scientists and specialists.

New England Board of Higher Education Tuition Break
The New England Board of Higher Education Regional Student Program offers discounted tuition to New England Residents for a select group of majors.
In most cases, the regional tuition covers all four years of the program. For some majors, however, the regional tuition does not take effect until later in the program. When tuition is reduced from out-of-state to regional, merit scholarships are reduced to the corresponding regional scholarship amount.
