Principal Update

Hi Reptile Families,

It's hard to believe we are getting close to the end of Quarter 1. I am so appreciative of all the support from all our families in helping to keep our campus safe. It takes all of us working together to make that happen.

We hope that each of you was able to stay safe during the recent storm and know that some of you have families/friends that may have been effected by the storm. The school district is working on a plan to show our support. We will send out more information as that plan develops further.

Thank you for the many families that joined us for Title I information meeting, PTO General Assembly, and Open House. We hope your family is able to join us for our annual Trunk or Treat event on October 28th.

Thank you for your continued support,

Colleen Wilkinson

P.E. News

Presidential Fitness pretesting has concluded. Our 3-5 grade students will be working on improving muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiorespiratory endurance, flexibility, speed, and agility this year. They have set goals to improve the number of sit ups and pushups they can do. Also, they will be working on their mile time and flexibility! Any encouragement you can give at home is greatly appreciated!!

We have over 125 Fun Run Club members! Running Club begins October 24that 9:30 AM. Please make sure you have access to your child’s PBIS account because we will communicate any announcements or changes to the regularly scheduled running dates (weather etc.). There will be no running club on October 31 due to costumes for the Character Parade. Students may not have more than 3 unexcused absences to stay in the Fun Run Club. Absences from school are excused.

Fine Arts Academies

New River is working towards becoming a Fine Arts Inclusion school! The purpose of a Fine Arts school is to integrate different aspects of the arts into students' every day education, and to use the arts to enrich student understanding of their academic content. For the month of September, each classroom integrated "tableau" into their lessons. Students acted out scenes from a story or acted out the content standards in science or social studies.

Starting on Wednesday, October 26th, students will also be attending a Fine Arts Academy once a month. These 45 minute academies will enrich students' education and give them a deeper understanding of one aspect of the arts. Students chose from academies such as Acting, Dance, Clay & Ceramics, Papier-Mache, and Photography. Academies will meet eight times throughout the year and will present a culminating activity at our Extravaganza in April. We are looking forward to seeing our students' talent and creativity!

Cafe Update

Each day our Reptiles can get a free breakfast and lunch. The menus are available here. All students are eligible for free breakfast.
