Learning Targets
Look at your leaning targets for this week’s lessons and based on what you have learned and know so far, ask the following:
Does my learning target derive from a standard? If so, you are on the right track.
Does my learning target describe an activity? If so, think more about what students are learning from the activity.
Does my learning target focus on something students will learn? In Danielson Domain 1, component c the rubric states the outcomes should state not what the students will do but what they will learn. If so, you are on the right track.
Will my students be able to tell what they learned? If so, you are on the right track.
Where am I going?
Where am I now?
How can I close the gap between where I am now and where I want to go?
Remember, according to John Hattie, teacher clarity is the number one factor that leads to improved student learning. Knowing what you want kids to learn, communicating what you want kids to learn, communicating success criteria, communicating what success looks like and how they will know when they’ve learned are all part of teacher clarity. It’s very powerful when you make all of these things known to your students when it comes to impacting their learning.
