2B & 2D NEWS!
February 1st-February 5th
What Are We Learning This Week
Social Studies: We will continue our unit on geography. Students will be split into groups within each class to study and create a google presentation on different continents.
Math: This week in math we will continue working with the skill of counting coins up to $1.00 and using the dollar and cent symbol correctly in small groups and in stations. We will integrate financial literacy into our science projects and continue reviewing this vocabulary (saving, spending, deposit, withdrawal, lend, borrow, consumer, producer, and more).
As a whole group, the students will be introduced to the conceptual idea of multiplication. An example of this follows: "There are 5 rows of chairs in Mrs. Jordan's class. Each row has 3 chairs. How many chairs are in Mrs. Jordan's classroom?" The students will be taught to draw pictures of the situations, but they will not be responsible for understanding that this problem is equal to 5 x 3 = 15 until 3rd grade.
Science: The students will begin making the products for the Earth Science projects that they have been researching in class! They will represent what they have learned in class and in their research using a product of their choice (poster, song, story, model/display, etc.).
Magazines for Art!
Earbuds!
As we are working on our middle of the year assessments, it is vital that each student has a pair of ear buds to keep at school. It makes it very difficult for students to concentrate and stay on task when he/she does not have their own pair of earbuds. They are very cheap and you can find them at The Dollar Tree or in the dollar spot at Target. Ask your child if they have earbuds at school in case they have lost/broken them since you sent them at the beginning of the year. Thank you!
Save the Date!
Our Valentine's Parties will be on Friday, February 12th @ 12:50-1:50 in each classroom. Our room parents are busy planning this event and we will send out more information as we get it. We are looking forward to a great party!
Lunch Duty Volunteers Wanted!
Our lunch is from 11:45-12:45, Monday-Thursday. We will not need parent volunteers on Fridays!
Thank you, in advance, for your time and energy!
