Making a difference, one person at a time
Conversation or Debate
George continues by analyzing discussions. Will this discussion be a conversation where both sides gain, or will this be a debate where there will be a winner and a loser?
I stepped back and paused as I listened. I reflected on discussions I've had with so many people. What I discovered is, George is correct. Furthermore, individuals that debate and the outcome is a win or loss are often people I avoid. What I actively seek are conversations that create reflection and growth (and have the ability to make me laugh and feel good).
Think of someone in your life that discussions are often a debate. How does this feel? Additionally, think of our students. Do you see these tendencies in some of them? The desire to "win" during a discussion. If yes, how can we change the narrative?

- Teachers please re-read chapter 2 of Simplifying Response to Intervention. My belief is that this is a crucial chapter to build a collective understanding and solid foundation. I'd like to be intentional at our next staff meeting about targeted conversations about this chapter. I'll be passing out a reflection guide this week for everyone to bring to the next staff meeting.
