Mar Vista Parent Newsletter
Week of October 12, 2020
Dear Families,
Hello Mar Vista Families,
On to another productive week! The student's have been very successful with completing their MAP assessments, Bridges Math Assessments, SIPPS Mastery tests, STAR tests, and more! This is an assessment-heavy time and your child may be feeling a little tension. Please remind them that all of these assessments just let us know how we can better support each of their learning needs. Things will start to calm down a bit and get a lot more fun, too! The teachers are already having a great time with the students with fun various activities and high interest assignments. I hope your kiddos are starting to ease into the routine and are feeling supported. As always, please let us know where any challenges exist and we will do our best to help or adjust where needed. We're in this together and we will make it through like the Sea Lion champs we are!
Congratulations to the students receiving awards this past Friday at our September Character Award Virtual Assembly. Feel free to view the video below the calendar section. Students receiving awards will be able to pick up their certificate and prize at the Monday distribution times. Our goal is to recognize every student at least once by the end of the school year. We're so proud of our little Sea Lions and are looking forward to celebrating their achievement, effort and character every month.
Thank you!
Stephanie Monroe

Mar Vista September Toy Drive Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
The September Toy Drive was a big success. The fifth grade classes at Mar Vista planned and organized this toy drive in loving memory of Ziva Mitnick. Thank you to all of the students and families who donated a new toy or made a small monetary donations. Tamar and her mom, Sarah Mitnick delivered the toys to the pediatric cancer unit at Kaiser in Santa Clara on Saturday, September 26th. The nurses were very pleased to receive the shipment as the toys would be distributed to the children to bring them great joy and entertainment. The nurses also were treated to a box of “bath fizzies” to thank them for all the care and love they give to the children at the pediatric cancer unit at Kaiser.

MVPs - Drive 4 Schools!!!
Happy Fall Mar Vista Families!!
We are well on our way for our 2020 Drive for Schools Fundraiser, already bringing in $1,975.00 for the Mar Vista Parents Club to use to support our amazing MV teachers and school community.
We have just over two weeks to raise as much as we can. Remember ALL the proceeds for ALL tickets sold go to OUR school. The grand prize is $25,000 and the winner will be chosen on November 1 at the Boardwalk. Not to mention that there are hundreds of other prizes that you can see at https://beachboardwalk.com/Drive-For-Schools/Prizes are added weekly. Knowing that this year has been challenging for our local economy, we hope you'll join us in thanking the generous businesses that have donated to this prize list. It is possible that a few more prizes will be added in the coming days, so be sure to check back next week to see if the list has grown!
All tickets must be purchased by October 25th at 5pm when our link will close. All online tickets will be filled in and stubs will be sent out weekly.
The live square link is https://checkout.square.site/buy/54QP2FABCES74BZPBRQJPECG please share it with friends and family and on you social media as well.
We appreciate your support and though we know we may not make it even close to our 2019 goal of $40,000, we know every dollar raised with be appreciated by the teachers and students.
Thanks you for all your hard work in promoting and selling tickets.

Message from Ms. Larsen, 1st-3rd Grade Art Teacher
I would like to let you know that I am making the white mattes available for pick-up again this coming Monday, October 12th. It will be used to create a Home/Neighborhood Art Gallery. I will be giving instructions on the project this week and the project is slated to be completed by October 19th, the following Monday. If you already have the white matte there is nothing you will need to pick up for art on the 12th.
It is very much in my purview to require as few pick-up supplies as possible. I really appreciate the many, many tasks that you do :)
Thank you,Melanie
