FSE Weekly Update

There's a Superhero in Each of Us!

January 11, 2016

Guardian of the Galaxy!

Kristen Wiatrek! Thank you for your organization and coordination of the Spelling Bee for each grade level!

Remember to acknowledge each other for acts of kindness and going above and beyond on our Guardian of the Galaxy bulletin board by the mailboxes.

Spending Deadline February 5

We will cut off accepting Requisitions after February 5. Please make sure you have purchased everything you need or secured a PO for spring purchases. Thanks!

Spring PLCs

Teachers need to bring their Superhero Data folders to each PLC meeting. These were the file folders you received at the beginning of the year.

Valentine Day Parties

Friday, February 12, we will celebrate Valentine's Day. Parties cannot begin before 1:30. This is also class picture day, so parties need to wait until 1:30 or later. Once you develop your note, please send a copy to Ms. Kensing.

Schlitterbahn Reading Challenge

Teachers please encourage your students to take on this reading challenge. Mrs. Varnon and I have been working for over a year to get FSE on this reading challenge. Schlitterbahn only allows a select number of schools to do this challenge, so it is exciting to have this offered to our students!

Congratulations 2nd 9 weeks winners!

Congratulations to the following homerooms who had the most sidekick awards for the 2nd grading period! Each homeroom has earned extra recess time supervised the administrative team. Thank you again for encouraging students to follow the campus expectations daily!

Save the Date- June 13-17

The TEKS Resource Conference is being moved from August to June. It will be held in San Antonio, despite the rumors we heard last year about it moving to Dallas. We usually try to send teachers from each team, so please save this week when planning vacations.

To Find Time to Read, Something's Got to Go

With schedules that are already jam-packed, we must steer clear of activities that are less important and less powerful than real reading. Think about activities that often take up valuable minutes in the reading classroom: worksheets, crossword puzzles, word searches, cut and paste activities, coloring pages. None of these activities honors what study after study has concluded about how kids learn to read. They need books in their hands. Books they CAN and WANT to read.
