WCE Celebrates PS I LOVE You Day by Wearing Purple!
The mission of PS I LOVE YOU is to bring awareness to the importance of mental health and decrease bullying. We strongly believe that by educating students earlier about mental health, the conversation will be easier to discuss and students will be able to recognize when they or others around them need help.
WCE Students Thank their Favorite Staff Members!
COVID-19 Quick Reminders
Please keep your child home from school and contact our main office (847-963-7500) if a student exhibits a Covid-19 symptom, has a fever, or has been in close contact with any person that has tested positive for COVID-19.
All staff and students at Winston Campus Elementary are expected to follow proper face covering protocols, social distance, and practice frequent hand washing. We will continue to follow the recommendations of the CDC and snacks will not be permitted in the classrooms, equipment will not be used at recess, and classroom materials will not be shared. Please remind our students of the importance to follow the safety procedures we have in place to support a safe and healthy learning environment.
Please contact Marilynn Smith, Principal or Michael Coleman, Assistant Principal if you have any COVID-19 questions or concerns.
5Essential Survey
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey gathers data related to five indicators that can be targeted to improve important student outcomes, including attendance and state test score gains. The 5Essentials Survey asks questions about:
· Effective Leaders
· Collaborative Teachers
· Involved Families
· Supportive Environments
· Ambitious Instruction
District 15 has chosen to provide the optional 5Essentials parent survey. If at least 20 percent of parents from your child’s school complete this survey, a parent supplement will also be generated and is one important source of information from parents.
Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
The Parent Survey will be conducted from Feb. 3, 2021 and closes April 2, 2021. You may take the survey at any time by visiting https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and selecting the appropriate survey to begin.
We are in need of a minimum of 20% of our families to complete the survey to receive our report. Your input helps us strive for continuous growth and improvement. This data is also linked to our school report card.
For more information about the Illinois 5Essentials Survey, please visit https://illinois.5-essentials.org.

Reminder: Dress for the Weather
Students generally go outside for recess and PE every day, so they should dress appropriately for the weather. Exceptions are made only when a child brings a doctor’s note excusing him/her from outdoor activities.
Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°–10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal’s discretion, the students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.
Other considerations include the condition of the playground and the presence of precipitation. For indoor recess, students are supervised in their classrooms.
Recess Protocol’s
Safety is our number one priority for students and staff. Due to COVID-19, recess looks a little different than it has in previous years at WCE. This year students will for a 20-20-20 schedule for the noonhour that reduces the number of students in a group. 20 of those minutes are dedicated to lunch. 20 of those minutes are allocated for play in a zone. 20 of those minutes are allocated for additional play in a different zone. In the event of inclement weather, students will remain in their classrooms for their allocated zone time. Recess supervisors have access to a variety of activities students can do at their desk will wearing their masks and following social distancing guidelines.
Students must wear face coverings at all times unless eating or drinking.
Students must follow social distancing guidelines of staying 6 feet apart from their classmates and staff.
*Equipment includes the sharing of snowballs and other objects students may build out of snow.
Students must have snow boots and snow pants on in order to play in the snow.
Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°-10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal's discretion, students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.
District 15’s Inclement Weather Protocols
As we enter the winter season, we want to remind families of District 15 families of the district’s emergency closing protocol. The school district takes the responsibility of deciding to close schools very seriously, and will only close in the event of extremely inclement weather.
If school is canceled, that decision is made by 5 a.m. You will be notified of the closure in a variety of ways:
Phone, Text, and Email—District 15 will send a message to all parents through a voice call, text message and email. Please ensure your contact information listed in the Infinite Campus is accurate. If you have changes you'd like to make to your personal contact information, please log into the Parent Portal and adjust your contact information.
Website—If classes are canceled due to inclement weather, an announcement will be posted on ccsd15.net and all of our school websites.
Social Media—School closures will be posted on the district’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
Radio and TV—Should a snow day be called, District 15 will inform television and radio stations.
For more information on emergency school closures and severe cold response plans, please visit our website.
Palatine Public Library and District 15 presents SORA!
Thanks to a partnership with the Palatine Public Library, all District 15 students are able to access SORA, a digital and audio book app for students! If your student does not have both CCSD15 and Digital Library of Illinois listed in his or her SORA menu (three lines in the top right), the account will need to be set up. Please follow these instructions to get started.
Reminder: Fully Power Down Chromebooks Each Night
Please be sure to power down your chromebooks completely each night and not just close them. The chromebooks do not auto-update from home if they have not been fully powered down. This is especially important to avoid technology issues.
