GES Family Update
11.17.23
Mr. Harris' Thoughts
As you may know, the Wisconsin School Report Cards were released to the public on Tuesday and I am proud to report that our rating increased from last year to this year from 74.3 to 78.6 and that is in the "Exceeds Expectations" category. The state uses a complicated formula to derive this number using results from the 3rd and 4th grade Forward exam. They consider overall achievement, growth, on track to graduation, and target group data. We are very proud of this year's report card! If you are interested in learning more, contact me or go to https://dpi.wi.gov/accountability/report-cards for more information.
We also recognize that the school report card does not acknowledge all of the things that happen at school each day. Taking care of each other is very important to us. Building relationships that last and showing empathy. Learning how to do hard things, learning from failure, and perseverance. Inside the last family update I asked for feedback about what success looks like at GES. I have received 65 responses and I have shared the results with our Guiding Coalition. If you haven't responded, I would still like to hear from you and the link is below.

HASD E3 Updates
Happy December HASD families! Thank you for taking the time to read E3 At Home. Please visit the link below to view the December topic which focuses on navigating grief.
An additional resource to consider is "Wisconsin Wayfinder", a new children's resource network for families created by the WI Department of Health Services. Wisconsin Wayfinder supports families of children with delays, disabilities, special health care needs, and mental health conditions. Their services are free and confidential. Here is a link to their website for more information:
GES Music Department - Celebration
The GES Music department continues to provide quality educational experiences for children! This week Mrs. Anna Frato conducted the 4th grade music program (on the 14th) and the 3rd Grade program (on the 16th). Children learned how to practice and prepare for a large performance... which is really hard! The music they create truly is inspiring and it touched us all... THANK YOU!
GES Lunch/Food Service
Food Service was being festive for the upcoming holiday. They gave all the hot lunch students a sample of fresh, steamed and seasoned squash. We also handed out fun fact cards about squash. The students were excited to try squash and learn something new.
Fun Facts about Squash
There are two types of squash
Summer and winter squash
Squash and Melons are related
Butternut squash and most orange squash are loaded with vitamin A
Pumpkins don’t have to be orange
Winter squash are harvested in the fall and are called winter squash because they store well during the winter
The best winter squash feel heavy for its size and have a firm skin
Try some squash today!
Jasmine
Those of you that were with us last year may remember that we had lined up a new staff member to join us at GES. Jasmine the Golden Retriever is a licensed therapy dog and she lives with Mrs. Falcon, a GES Inclusion Coach. She will be here with us outside on Wednesday the 22nd for the Turkey Trot and our plan is to have her begin her shift in January! Many more details in the next family update.
GES Parent/Student and Handbook Reminders
Our Handbook contains a lot of very valuable information and I wanted to remind you about our emergency school closures for weather related and other reasons. The handbook paragraph says...
EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSING It is important that parents have a “plan” for school closing days.
Emergency School Closing Information will be filled out by parents at registration. The teachers will follow these instructions in the event school is closed early for any reason. If those plans change, please notify your child’s teacher. Please, do not call the school on emergency/school closing days. The phone lines need to stay open for safety reasons. If you are signed up through Skyward, you will receive a Skylert message.
On days when it will be necessary to close school, the announcement of school closing or two hour delay will be made near 6:30 a.m. over radio stations WHBY 1150 AM, WAPL 105.7 FM, WIXX 101.1 FM, WNAM 1280 AM, WOSH 1490 AM, WPKR 99.5FM, WNFL 1440 AM, WROE 94.3 FM, WJMQ 93.2 FM WDUX 800 OR 92.7FM, WEMI 91.9 FM, WOZZ 93.5 FM, WVBO 103.9 FM, WZBY 99.7 FM, WNCY 100.3 FM, WECB 104.3FM, WSCO 1570 AM, WTAQ 1360 AM, WWWX 96.9 FM, WZOR 94.7 FM, AND TV STATIONS Channel 2, Channel 5, Channel 11 and Channel 26.
