American Beech Tree
Beech tree was planted under an oak tree and is being used for shade or a specimen tree. A beech tree will reach 60 to 80 feet tall, and will be too tall and crowded to fit under the tree it was planted near/beneth.
Japanese Maple; Acer palmatum
The Japanese Maple is a small deciduous tree growing 15-25 ft in height with a rounded or irregular shape. The tree is slow growing and has lance-shaped lobed leaves. The flowers are red or purple they bloom in May and June. The bark is gray and has green and red shiny twigs that makes it look ornamental. The fruits are samaras with a reddish tinge. The tree is best grown in moist acidic soil with full sun to part shade. The Japanese Maple is used for a specimen tree with its fall colors turning red, yellow, orange, or purple.
Paperbark Maple; Acer griseum
The Paperbark Maple is a small slow growing tree. That reaches a height up to 30 ft. The tree has medium texture with an oval, upright, or irregular shape. The sumer foliage is trifoliate, opposite with 3'' to 5" leaves with a soft blue-green color and a frosty white underside. The fruits are samaras and the bark is a exfoliating cinnamon-brown, but polished smooth in areas. The bark peels off in thin sheets. The tree is somewhat pest free and prefers well-drained , moist slightly acidic soils in full sun or part shade. This tree is a good choice for small yards and used as a specimen tree.
Quaking Aspen; Populus tremuloides
The Quaking Aspen is a deciduous tree that is fast growing reaching 40-50 ft in height and 20-30 ft wide. The bark is slender greenish-gray in color and smooth. The tree has reddish-brown stems. The bark darkens in color with age. The Aspen tree is used for lumber and it's interesting form/shape. It is soil tolerant and prefers wet soils with full sun.
Eastern Hemlock

The common Lilac is a upright deciduous shrub with a medium growth rate. The shrub grows 8-15 ft tall and 6-12 ft wide the lower branches do not have leaves. The flowers are fragrant and showy that bloom in May. The bark is light-gray and smooth with lenticels and leaf scars. The Lilac needs to be pruned after flowering to cut off old flower heads. The lilac is used for its high quality foliage and form.
