A Peek At Our Week

Language Arts

RF1.3, RF1.4, RL 1.1, RL1.2, RL1.3, RL 1.5, RL 1.6, L1.1, L1.2, L1.4, W1.2, W1.5, W1.6, and W1.8

We will learn the long /a/ sound spelled ai and ay. We will also learn the long I sound spelled /igh/, /y/, and /ie/. We will read “Tomas Rivera”, “A Quiz For Brent”, and “I Can” in our hard-back reader. On Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving, we will be reviewing sounds and spellings we have learned. We will learn how to sequence a story and ask questions. We also will work on the author’s point of view. This month we will focus on making predictions. We will review visualizing (making mental images as stories are read to us). We also will review prior knowledge. Our vocabulary words are accomplishment, cozily, ambition, admire, interrupted, and triumphantly. We also will work on using I and me in sentences. We will continue to work on nonfiction (informational writing) in Writer’s Workshop.

Sight Words

Please help your child learn sight word lists 3 and 4. Email me or send me a note when your child is ready to be tested.


NBT1, NBT.2a, NBT. 2b, NBT.2c, NBT.4, NBT 5, NBT 6 , OA1, OA2, OA3, OA4, OA5, OA6, OA7, and OA8

We will work on solving word problems with subtraction from 9 and 10. We will learn to subtract 9 from teen numbers. We will learn tens and ones using numbers 0—80 short week before Thanksgiving. We will learn how to sketch and expanded form, for example 53 would be 50 +3=53. We will do number talks. We will solve word problems in our math journal. We will play math games in math centers.

Science/Social Studies

We will study about Alabama Native Americans. We will learn about map skills as well as human made and natural resources. We will also begin a new science module called Air and Weather.

Attendance Information


Each student is allowed 6 parent excuses per year (this is a change from years past). Parent excuses can be a hand written note or you may email the excuse to your child’s teacher and copy the excuse to: PPattendance@trussvillecityschools.com.

An ORIGINAL doctor’s excuse may be turned in from the parent by the student. Doctor’s excuses may be faxed to 205-228-3201 ONLY by the doctor’s office. We can NOT accept a faxed doctor’s excuse from a parent.

All excuses MUST be turned in within 3 days of the absence.
