Copper Hill Library
December 2018
Around the Library...
It's hard to believe we are already here at winter break! December was at the same time long and short (as time seems to be going these days), but once again, we spent time learning some great things in the library.
Kindergarten has been learning about three of the holidays celebrated in December - Kwanzaa, Hanukkah and Christmas. We recorded our learning in order to make comparisons between the holidays. First grade worked on identifying story elements and using them to compare and contrast two stories. Second grade has continued with their biography project, using a graphic organizer to take notes about their person. They will be recording clues in Flipgrid for their classmates to help guess their person very soon! Third grade has been exploring different areas of the nonfiction section, finding out what types of books are there and how to use the catalog to help them find books they will enjoy. They are doing great work discovering themselves as nonfiction readers. Fourth grade has been using Noodletools to help them cite different types of resources in preparation for their upcoming research project.
We also have a new addition to the library - the Fun Facts Center! Students are able to share some of the interesting things they are learning and each Friday I read some of their findings on the morning announcements.
Beat Winter Break "Boredom"
How many of your children suffer from "boredom" over those precious days off for winter break? Have them try this Winter Break Challenge using our awesome resource, PebbleGo (see below)! Simply go to www.pebblego.com and login (copperhill/read) to have your kiddos start reading and researching for their challenge squares. If students complete at least 3 squares and bring the finished product to the library to show me after break, I will allow them to have an extra book checkout!
Library Mission
It is the mission of the Copper Hill Library to provide students, staff and parents with a nurturing environment that empowers them to become effective and efficient users of information and technology, informed decision makers, and leaders in their community.
