Dear Parents / Carers,
We have had a fabulous first week back this week! The children have clearly benefited from the break as they have come back eager and ready to learn. The improving weather has made it easier to spread out around the school onto the field and it has been a joy to hear the learning taking place.
We were thrilled to learn that many of our older children did very well in the interschools cross country competition that took place very differently this year, with each school running in their own grounds a class at a time. Several of our children made the fastest eight in each race so well done to them.
We have also returned to a new audio visual system in the hall, paid for by the Friends of Kirk Fenton. This will mean that when we return to worships, assemblies and plays/ concerts, everyone should now be able to see and hear, even those right at the back! Thank you very much FOKF, we can't wait to start using it!
Today is offer day for next year's Reception places so that has given us a lot to start planning and preparing for. We are looking forward to welcoming the next classes into school as soon as we are allowed, hopefully before they start with us in September if we are allowed.
Finally, if you are able, please consider taking up the government's offer of twice weekly lateral flow tests. The school staff have been using these since January and it soon becomes routine but may help you to pick up a covid infection early. This in turn will help us to keep the virus out of school and keep classes open.
Have a lovely, sunny weekend

Pupil Premium & Free School Meals Funding
As you will be aware, Universal Free School Meals are automatically available to all children in EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2. However, if you meet certain criteria, your child may be eligible for Free School Meals for the whole of their primary education as well as additional funding to support them with their education, called a 'Pupil Premium'. This additional funding benefits our school to support us to increase your child's attainment.
To qualify for Free School Meals and Pupil Premium funding, you must fulfil one of the following criteria:
- Universal Credit, provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods (£616.67 per month);
- Income Support;
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance;
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance;
- Support under part six of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999;
- The guarantee element of Pension Credit;
- Child Tax Credit, provided you are also not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual household gross income that does not exceed £16,190 (as assessed by HMRC); or
- Working Tax Credit run-on, paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit.
If your family circumstances change, you may become eligible. Please see the North Yorkshire website below for more information and to access the relevant application forms. Once your application has been processed, school will be notified automatically . If you require any support with understanding Free School Meals and Pupil Premium funding or help with your application, please call one of our admin team who will be happy to advise.

Welcome back to school everyone, we hope you had a lovely restful and fun Easter break.
We are pleased to report that the audio visual systems for the hall have been purchased and we look forward to seeing/hearing it all in action when performances are allowed. It will be joyous to be able to see and hear everything by the children when they are performing.
AGM - 15th June 2021
As the summer term is now upon us, we look to holding the AGM for Friends, this will be via virtual meeting on 15th June 2021, time and platform and more information to be released at a later date. The majority of the current committee will be stepping down, so we will need some new bodies on board for Friends to be able to continue with its role in the school community. It would be lovely if you could join us for the meeting and if you would like to get involved with Friends, please do get in touch for more information.
"Spring : a lovely reminder of how beautiful change can be"
Sending you all our warmest regards
