The wrap up of spring sports has been EXCITING! In the last 6 days, we've shot a season-best, celebrated seniors, set a new NCC record, appreciated educators and claimed victory in walk-off fashion over a state-ranked squad!!
On the edge of your seat yet? Good ... it's time for BricksCenter!
Softball
With just two full weeks remaining in the regular season, the Lady Brickies faced perhaps one of their toughest stretches over the last 6 days with contests against Munster & Lowell ... the top two teams in the NCC ... followed by a date with 16-1, Class 2A #8-ranked Illiana Christian.
On Monday, Hobart hosted the Lady 'Stangs in a HUGE NCC matchup. Most people expect to see fireworks on July 4th. If you were at the HHS softball complex last Monday, you were treated to an early show as both teams LIT UP the scoreboard time and time again! It was CRAZY how much offense was on display! Our girls hit 3 HOMERUNS ... 1 each by freshman Emili Knestrict and juniors Carigan Menear & Alyssa Janik, pounded out a total of 13 hits, scored 7 runs and Munster outscored the Lady Bricks 11-7 and won the slugfest.
Wednesday, our girls headed south on I-65 to take on the Lowell Red Devils in ANOTHER HUGE NCC showdown. Lowell entered the contest tied for 1st in the NCC (with Munster) and boasting a record of 10-5. The Red Devils plated 2 runs both the 2nd & 3rd innings and kept the Lady Brickies off balance all night at the plate. Hobart managed just 4 hits and lost a tough one 4-0. Freshman Taylor Lopez went 2-for-3 in the loss.
Hobart is currently 10-12 on the year with 1 week remaining before IHSAA Sectional play begins at Chesterton High School. SENIOR NIGHT will take place Wednesday against Lake Station. WE BELIEVE!!

The Lady Brickies @ PNW to face Illiana Christian!
Boys Golf
It was quite a week for the boys swinging clubs ... golf clubs that is!
On Monday night, the Brickies were competitors in the Boone Grove Invitational held at the Lakes of the Four Seasons Country Club. In a strong field of teams, our boys were basically throwing darts at the greens and placed 2nd overall!! INCREDIBLE!!
Just 24 hours later, Hobart hosted Munster at River Pointe and absolutely TORE IT UP!! Not literally of course ... the fairways & greens still looked fantastic at the end of the round. What I mean is they collectively shot a SEASON BEST TEAM SCORE of 189!! This is nearly 15 shots better as a team than their previous best! OUTSTANDING!! The FAB FOUR were sophomores Ben Eberle, Parker Glass & Tommy Snemis and senior Ethan Cover. Unfortunately, the Mustangs were even better as they completed the 9-hole round with a team score of 161 ... wow. Still, the improvement our boys are showing is FANTASTIC!!

Baseball
Hobart had a full schedule this past week as temps soared past the Heat Index warning 4 consecutive days. Thankfully, it was dry ... which meant PLAY BALL!
Monday night, Hobart traveled to DeMotte to square off with the Kougars in NCC play. In a back-and-forth contest that was tied at 2 after 5 innings, KV was able to manufacture a run in the bottom of the 6th to take the lead and then held on in the 7th for the 3-2 win.
On Tuesday, it was payback time for the Brickies. In the top of the 3rd, KV took a brief 2 run lead, but our boys BATTLED and plated 7 unanswered runs over the next 3 innings and won easily 7-2!! On Teacher Appreciation Night, senior Ivan Balboa struck out 14 batters in 7 innings of work to pick up the win and also went 2-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBI!
On Friday, Hobart was "On the Road Again" ... this time to Crown Point. Our boys SHINED in The Hub City and DOMINATED the host Bulldogs in picking up a 6-0 VICTORY! Junior Cam Gonzalez DAZZLED on the mound as he threw a complete game shut out, struck out 8 batters and only surrendered 1 hit! He also went 2-3 at the plate with a double and 2 runs scored! Classmate Kyle Feterick also registered 2 hits with a double, 1 RBI, and a run scored and Balboa was 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs!!
Hobart is now 15-7 on the season! The next 6 days will have our boys hopping with 5 games remaining before IHSAA Sectional play begins over at Valparaiso. DON'T STOP NOW BOYS!!

Teacher Appreciation Night for Hobart Baseball!
Track & Field
Tuesday night, both the Boys & Girls Track and Field teams were at Munster High School for the 2022 Northwest Crossroads Conference CHAMPIONSHIP meet. With each of the 6 schools in the NCC unable to complete a regular season conference schedule due to inclement weather issues, the NCC CHAMPIONSHIP meet ... which normally counts 50% towards who is crowned the overall champion ... was for ALL THE MARBLES this year!
On a BEAUTIFUL night to compete, our Brickies SHINED!! Both the boys & girls finished 4th overall in the final standings and had multiple OUTSTANDING performances! The highlight of the night had to be junior vaulter Cody Johnston breaking the NCC CHAMPIONSHIP meet record ... set by his brother Riley back in 2019 ... with a vault of 16'01"!! The performance of the night for Hobart came from sophomore hurdler Cailey Weber, who earned all-conference in all 4 events she competed in - INCREDIBLE!!
Here are the Brickies that earned ALL-CONFERENCE:
1st Team
Cody Johnston - 1st place in Pole Vault (NEW MEET RECORD @ 16'01")
Cailey Weber - 1st place in 100m Hurdles

The IHSAA State Tournament Series begins Tuesday for the girls & Thursday for the boys with sectional competition taking place at Lowell & Crown Point respectively. GOOD LUCK to all the Brickies competing!!

Girls Tennis
The Lady Brickie raqueteers hit a trifecta this past week with 3 matches in 4 days!
Monday, Hobart was at Boone Grove in a rescheduled match from April 22nd. Fortunately for the Lady Brickies, the extra practice time paid off as our girls PACKED UP the Wolves and WON 5-0!! Senior #1 singles Emma Novak, junior #3 singles Kayla Walker, and the #2 doubles team of senior Piper Logan & junior Maddy Baltrushaitis all won in straight sets to help Hobart secure VICTORY!
Thursday, Hobart wrapped up the NCC regular season schedule with a quick trip over to 5959 Broadway to face Andrean. Novak won in straight sets at #1 singles, but ultimately it was the '9ers who would prevail by a 4-1 margin. With the IHSAA Sectional draw on Monday night, this could be a potential rematch next week ... and if it is, we know the Lady Bricks will be ready to turn the tide!
Hobart is 7-6 overall and 2-3 in NCC play. The Lady Brickies will host the 2022 IHSAA Sectional this upcoming week and will attempt to win their 4th consecutive crown over the likes of Andrean, Lake Station, Merrillville, North Newton, and River Forest. LET'S GO BRICKS!!

SENIOR NIGHT
Unified Track & Field
Wednesday's Inclusion Meet with the Ingots was NUTHIN' BUT FUN as athletes & partners competed in all sorts of events and even had a mid-meet DANCE session!! Mr. Whiteman was on the mic for the event and did THE BEST (... I say THE BEST) job celebrating all those who were competing!! After the final race concluded, pizza was served along with a hearty dose of fellowship between the two teams. Overall - it was a GREAT NIGHT to be a Brickie!
On Thursday, the Brickies were at Griffith High School for their final regular season meet of the 2022 year. No results were available to report, but after talking with Coach Jackie Keefe, this was a PERFECT tune-up for our kids with the IHSAA Sectional just a week away!
