Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
What a wonderful way for the school to finish the term with Interschool Swimming team coming second at the interschool carnival yesterday. There were some outstanding swims during the event by St Columba’s swimmers. Congratulations to medal winners Matilda P receiving Runner-up Champion Girl and Lachlan M receiving an equal Champion Boy.
This year we introduced two new specialist teachers to teach the Art programme and Korean. What a hit they have been with students, and there has been so much positive feedback from parents and carers as well. Thank you to Melissa and Min for teaching these learning area's so well.
Another great DOSC Campout happened over the weekend. It was a great event and the kids and more importantly the Dads had a great time cooking and sharing stories while 'supposedly' supervising children in the absence of mothers. Way to go Dave Palermo, Nick Ng Cheong Tin, Mel Naso and Rob Blascette.
We wish Lachlan M all the best for trying out for Under 12's State AFL team on Monday 15 April 2019 and participating in All Schools Secondary Cross Country Championships on Friday 17 May.
Please note the Pupil Free Days for 2019:
Monday 29 April, Tuesday 4 June, Monday 22 July, Friday 30 August and Monday 14 October.
I wish everyone a safe and blessed Easter season and look forward to seeing everyone back at the start of Term 2.
God bless.

Nguyet from Vietnam
Nguyet is a teenager living with a disability in a small town in Vietnam. She lived the first 14 years of her life isolated at home. Her disability restricted her movements and any chance of going to school. Around 7% of people in Vietnam are living with a disability. They often have poorer health, fewer education and employment opportunities and higher poverty rates.
“I can go out independently now. I would like to have my own shop in the village one day. And I hope that other people with disabilities in Vietnam will receive help like I did.”

Making a Splash at the ASCS Interschool Carnival
Yesterday at Fremantle Pools students from Years 4 to 6 attended the ASCS Interschool Swimming Carnival. The students represented St Columba’s over various swimming strokes, distances and relays against 7 other schools. Our students were wonderful sports people cheering the school and its competitors on. At the end of the carnival the school swimming squad was awarded 2nd place based on the average points per students and 2nd place based on their raw score. Many of our students put forward a massive effort often finishing strong at the end of their races. Congratulations to Matilda P receiving Runner-Up Year 5 Champion Girl and Lachlan M receiving an equal Year 5 Champion Boy. We are proud of our students’ efforts, displaying their swimming abilities and being excellent representatives of their school.
Well done!

Artist of the Week
Cayden from Year Four is the Artist of the Week. He was chosen because of the time and care he took with his Perth City artwork. Cayden feels happy when he does art. When producing this piece of art, he liked drawing the lines and using dots to look like fireworks. He painted the water blue. Cayden is very happy with his art.

News from our Recycling Team
Easter is almost upon us and a time when gifts are shared. Of course we can still do our bit for the environment with the packaging that comes from the chocolate gifts.
Here are some ideas as to how your family can do its bit to minimise the waste. You could even aim for WRAP Free Easter eggs. A few Bulkfood suppliers like The Source in East Victoria Park have yummy wrap free eggs that can also be lactose free.
Have a happy Easter.

The P&F will be running a Mother's Day stall on Wednesday, 8 May, for all students to purchase a special gift to give their mum on Mother's Day.
For this we would love if each child from Kindy to Year 6 could bring in a small present donation. All donations can be placed in a bucket that will be in each classroom until Monday 6 May. Gifts are to be new/unused - small token gifts for example chocolates, tea, soaps, candles, hand creams, travel mugs, jewellery, photo frames etc. Please leave the gifts unwrapped so that the children can select a gift they would like to give to their Mother.
One gift per student can be purchased from the stall for a gold coin donation. The children were very excited last year to be able to select a special gift for their mum's!
