STRATEGIC THINKERS - - - EXCITED LEARNERS - - - SUCCESSFUL LEADERS
Dear Sandymount Families,
Bullying of any kind will not be tolerated at Sandymount. This includes any intentional conduct, including verbal, physical or written conduct, or an intentional electronic communication, that creates a hostile educational environment by substantially interfering with a student’s educational, physical or psychological well-being.
At Sandymount, it is our priority to create a positive climate where students feel safe. Bullying is detrimental social interactions that affect everyone – the offender, the victim(s), the bystanders, the school, parents, and the community. We ask that families assist us in preventing this behavior by talking to your child(ren) about what to do if they know about any bullying, harassment, and/or intimidation happening at school.
Please contact your child's teacher, school counselor and/or administrator if you have questions or concerns. For additional information or you wish to report an incident, visit the CCPS website and click on the Bullying Reporting link.
Lastly, I am pleased to share that we have two new staff members joining our wonderful school. Mrs. Heather Bosley joins our school as our special education resource teacher with 14 years of experience with CCPS. Mrs. Donna Yingling has accepted the school custodial position. This is a shared position with another elementary school, which means that she will work at Sandymount two days a week. Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Bosley and Mrs. Yingling to our Sandymount family!
Have a great weekend!

Friendly Reminders From The Office Staff
Thank you for submitting absence notes to the SESattendance email. We ask that you kindly remember to:
- include the student name in the email
- include the teacher name in the email
- include the reason for the absence (in order to code the absence correctly) If you just report that the student "absent today", the absence will be coded as unexcused.
- if illness, for COVID purposes and Health Suite calls, please include symptoms
Thank you for helping us keep your student's school file as accurate as possible.
Dismissal Change Reminders
If you need to change your daily student’s dismissal, please send a note with your child to school in the morning. For security and safety purposes, the school cannot accept a phone call asking for a dismissal change. Of course, in the event of a true emergency, we will assist you any way we can. The office is a busy place at the end of the day. Our goal is to keep your child safe and unexpected, last minute changes create unnecessary havoc.
We greatly appreciate your cooperation.

What’s New in CCPS Advanced Academic Programs?
Hello! My name is Sharon Lilly, and I’m the new Supervisor of Gifted & Talented and Advanced Academics for CCPS. I come to you with experience as a middle school principal, high school Advanced Placement teacher, and gifted and talented educator. I have worked in both Baltimore and Carroll County Public School systems for twenty-five years and am excited to support students, teachers, and families through elementary, middle, and high school. Our program goal is to provide rigorous, extended curricular learning experiences to students who demonstrate this need, including the integration of more complex content and higher expectation instruction.
Over the past few years, CCPS has sought to develop consistency in our advanced academic programs, focusing on extending curriculum-based learning. The advanced academic team continues to work with content specialists and general educators to prepare and embed strategies and activities appropriate for accelerated learners within the classroom and in differentiated group instruction. Our AA specialists split time between two schools, so in addition to working directly with students, they are also supporting advanced instruction through curriculum development and planning with general educators. Both classroom teachers and the advanced academic specialist will provide enrichment and extension to students who are identified as possessing gifted traits and to students who demonstrate a high aptitude in a particular lesson or unit of study.
We seek to prepare our students with great learning potential to take advantage of advanced learning pathways available to them as they move through their education towards college and career. In my first year as supervisor, I am visiting schools, observing instruction, and collaborating with our community to continue to build advanced academic opportunities and programs for our students. We are looking for parents to serve on our Advanced Academics steering committee this year to provide input and feedback on programs. Please email me at email@example.com if you are interested or if you have any questions or feedback!
