Second Grade Newsletter
May 15-19
Math
Second graders are starting a unit on financial literacy. Students will understand the difference between saving and spending, as well as how to make smart choices with money. We will be comparing amounts of money.
Language Arts and Social Studies
We will be reading a nonfiction story called "Super Storms" Our comprehension skill is focusing on cause and effect.
We will be focusing on compound words for vocabulary.
In Social Studies, the students will explain how innovation and technology have affected life in the past and present.
Science
We are working on a unit of force and motion. Students will describe the types of movement. Our end of unit project is working on designing a game that uses types of motion and force.
Important Dates
May 17th: Wear Rainbow Day, dress in as many colors as possible
May 19: All library books due
May 26th- Field Day
May 29th- Student Holiday
June 1st- End of the Year Party 12:30-1:30
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences will be May 19-May 25. Be on the lookout for an email from your child's teacher!
Homework/Spelling
Our homework for the rest of the year is the "Teacher for a Day" assignment. Students will need to prepare something to teach the class. They need to be prepared and ready to present on May 30. They will be presenting a day that week. The slip of paper with your child's idea is due this Friday, May 19th. We will still have a spelling test this week and next week. May 26th will be our last spelling test.
