Swansboro Elementary
April 18, 2021
Thanks for another fabulous week at Swansboro Elementary. We had lots of fun celebrating our military children! This week will be celebrating our public school volunteers. Although we know that Covid has put a damper on volunteering this last school year, we are so blessed to live in a community where folks are eager to help out! Also this is Administrative Professional Week. Our office staff wears many hats and has a challenging job supporting over 700 students and staff members. Thank you Mrs. Dixon (secretary/treasurer), Mrs. Green (receptionist), and Mrs. Jones (data manager) for all that you do to keep this school up and running! We APPRECIATE you more than you will ever know!!! This Wednesday is a Teacher Workday, so there will be no school for students on Wednesday. On Friday, interim reports will be sent home with all students. I know it can be tempting to run out of energy this last grading period, but we really need everyone giving it their personal best all the way to the end. We appreciate parents support in helping our students stay focused and disciplined through the end. I am confident that if we do this, everyone's hard work will pay off and students will show lots of growth. Please begin looking around your house to gather and return any overdue library books. Students will be able to continue to check out library books through May 7th, but we have noticed that many students have quite a few outstanding books. Please keep in mind that you will be charged for any library books that are not returned by May 14th.
We have a handful of cars that are arriving a little late for carpool in the afternoon. While I appreciate folks waiting to come in the second round (around 3:15), please make sure that if the buses have already pulled onto our campus, that you utilize the first entrance and park and come in to get your child. It is not safe to have cars pulling into the bus loading zone. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
One last reminder, while SBES is no longer required to conduct student health screenings upon arrival to school, we are still asking that parents are vigilant in monitoring their children's health. We have seen an increase in positive Covid-19 cases in the Swansboro area schools, therefore, it is imperative that if your child is exhibiting any Covid symptoms ( Fever 100ᵒ F or Higher, Chills, Shortness of Breath, Diarrhea/Vomiting,
Difficulty Breathing, New Cough, Loss of Smell, Sore Throat,
Loss of Taste, Exposure to COVID-19, New onset of severe headache ) that you please keep them home and notify either Nurse Mollie Sammons or myself. This is making your child's health and safety a priority as well as the health and safety of over 600 other students. Thank you for doing your part to help prevent the spread. We are looking forward to a great week!

* Remember that in the morning, any line will work, but afternoon that are grade specific.
* Now that screenings are no longer required, we are going back to original schedule with doors opening at 8 am. We will begin opening car doors a few minutes before 8, but please don't let students out without someone coming to open your car door.
* Please make sure that you are going slow and paying close attention as you pull into the lot. We have lots of students coming from many directions and want to make sure that everyone is safe.
* For afternoon dismissal, please make changes in School Dismissal before 2 pm. Have pin number ready, use grade specific lane and pull in tight. Please do not block traffic.
Note from Nurse Sammons:

Loss of Taste, Exposure to COVID-19, New onset of severe headache) or you are being quarantined per medical advice or are being Covid tested per medical request PLEASE email the Nurse or call the school. Covid close contacts
When a student tests positive for Covid-19, we conduct contact tracing and all students that are identified as a close contact (within 6 ft of the positive person for more than 15 minutes) receive a personal phone call from the school nurse or principal to inform the parent that their child has been identified as a close contact and are required to quarantine for 14 days from date of potential exposure. This is in accordance with OCS policy and the Strong Schools NC Public Health Toolkit.
