Maire Newsletter October 1st edition
Dear Maire Families,
Can you believe we’ve already reached October! Students and staff are starting to hit their stride now. Routines are in place. Physical stamina to get through an entire day is way up (for both students and staff). The next layer to pushing for academic, social, and emotional growth is the upcoming conferences on October 13th and 14th. During this time we partner with parents to talk about student strengths and weaknesses and help develop a plan to make growth this year. Information will come out next week about how to sign up for conferences. Parent-teacher conferences have been an important part of the success of Maire over the years.
I would like to take a minute to thank all those who are organizing our Fun Run this year. We have an amazing team of parent volunteers that are helping with finding sponsors, organizing raffles, creating prizes and incentives, and planning for the big race day on October 22nd. The Fun Run is a ton of work and energy, but this fundraiser provides so much back to Maire. We appreciate any and all donations that are given from families, relatives, and community members. Thank you for your continued support to make Maire even better each and every year.
I'm blown away by the generosity of our community so far. We've reached our $15,000 goal and each grade is celebrating with an extra recess. Our next goal is $25,000 and the staff will come dressed as Super Heroes to the Fun Run. Can't wait!
Sincerely,
Ryan Francis
proud Principal of Maire

Notes from the Office
- Fall temperatures can fluctuate drastically throughout the day. All students are eating lunch outside, and have recess twice a day. Please dress the students in layers, so that they can be comfortable for any temperature shifts.
- Please label all of your student's belongings. Our lost & found is already filling up, and if items are labeled, we can get them back to their owner more quickly.

INCLEMENT WEATHER VS RAINING
We apologize for any confusion earlier in the year about what steps we take during different weather patterns for arrival and dismissal. We would like to clarify a few items:
Early dismissal is extremely rare at Maire and only done when inclement (unsafe) weather is going to happen at dismissal. Typically this is a Thunderstorm where lightning and high winds make it dangerous to walk home. The Maire office will communicate to families that we will start an early dismissal and utilize our walkie talkie system to call students down to the exit under the covered parking lot doors when their parents/guardians arrive. In a true storm we encourage parents to use the pickup circle and ask that you ‘pack your patience’ as we work through dismissing almost 250 students safely.
We will not dismiss students early if it is raining. While rain is inconvenient, it is still safe for families to walk home and the use of an umbrella or rain jacket is a good remedy.
In the morning we will let students inside 15 minutes prior to the bell if it is truly raining. Misting, or sprinkling, does not typically warrant an inside line up in the morning. We will also let students inside when the temperature is below 0 with the windchill.
We hope this helps clarify our arrival and departure issues during tricky Michigan weather.
