Reading Workshop
This week, the Maples learned new strategies to have deeper conversations with their reading partners. We now know that our partners are there for us when we want to share something exciting from our books, and when we are stuck or confused and need help.
We often have thoughts like, ‘Oh, this is cool!’ or ‘Huh, I don’t get this!’ These are exactly the kinds of things readers share with our reading friends. So when you notice something that you want to share, put a sticky note on the page to save it for partner reading.
Readers notice places in our books that give us strong feelings. We can mark these places in our books to prepare for our partner book talks.
Readers notice how our emergent storybooks are alike and different. We can talk to our reading friends about the things we notice that are the same and different.
Exploration
The Maples are so excited about the puppet show that we will be putting on to celebrate all of our favorite emergent storybooks. Students have been working very hard on creating their own puppets. We also collaborated in small groups to create detailed backdrops for our show.
Integrated Unit of Study
In our new unit of study, we will be looking closely at family. We started this week by answer questions such as 'who do you trust?', 'who do you depend on?' and 'who do you share meals with?' in our research journals using pictures and words.
Math
As a class we also started to compare objects by height and length using a tower of ten. Students discussed in full and small groups the varied strategies they use while measuring and comparing.
