Sherwood Updates
Dear Sherwood Families,
Celebrating Halloween is a long loved tradition at Sherwood School. Check out our amazing classroom doors decorated by our Sherwood PTO parents! So festive and fun!!!
Students may wear costumes to school on Monday, October 31. The costumes must not disrupt instruction and should be safely designed and age appropriate to allow for adequate vision and mobility. Face coverings that impact visibility or cover the face completely cannot be worn during the day or during the parade for safety reasons, and no toy weapons of any type will be allowed at school. Costumes should be school appropriate.
Parents and friends are invited to view our Halloween parade that begins at 2:35pm. The route is pictured below. (Please note - Students will parade outside, weather permitting. In case of inclement weather, the parade will not take place.) We have no indications of any "threats" or need for "enhanced security," and we have no plans to add extra security. We plan to follow our normal supervisory practices in support of the Halloween parades. This is no different from our current outdoor lunch/recess and outdoor learning activities that occur across the district daily. We remain vigilant in the protection of our children and staff!
As a reminder, if students have been absent from instructional activities during the day, they may not participate in the parade.
The Sherwood PTO Philanthropy committee will be working with Dancing While Cancering again this year and all of our students will be creating bedside crafts for pediatric patients undergoing cancer treatment. This is in lieu of a traditional Halloween party. You can learn more about this incredible organization here: https://dancingwhilecancering.org/

Message from NSSD112 Bus Transportation
Currently there is a nationwide shortage of bus drivers and this is impacting First Student Transportation and bus routes in District 112. We are seeing an increase in the number of substitute drivers who are not familiar with our neighborhoods, which often causes delays. Attempts will be made to inform parents about the status of delayed routes when possible. We are working hard to minimize the impact and we appreciate your patience and understanding.
Parents can contact First Student at 847-724-7200 or the D112 Transportation Office at 224-765-3011 for any updates on bus delays or any other question regarding the bus route.
Sherwood Peer Buddies
The Individualized Learning Program (ILP) is ready to begin the Peer Buddies program for the school year! Peer Buddies is an amazing program that promotes inclusion across multiple settings, such as adaptive Art, PE, and recess. Students in general education have opportunities to support skills, play games, and socialize with their peers in the IL Program. Additionally, Peer Buddies are encouraged to engage in conversation, share interests, play games, and get to know each other during lunch/recess, and other social times of the day as well! This opportunity is for students in 3rd-5th grades. Please fill out this form to sign up. Thank you!
