Astronomy Club
This past Sunday, several members of our Astronomy class, Club, and parents met at the Lake Murray Dam to watch and photograph the Lunar Eclipse that took place. After several hours of observations and photography, student Sydney S. created the following composite of the best photos that were taken showing the progression of the eclipse to totality. How cool!

LR5 Leadership Academy
Congratulations to Kevin Pettit, Sarah Ostergaard, and Britta Adams, our school’s 2022 District 5 Leadership Academy participants!
Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program
Congratulations to Special Education Teacher Bonnie Robinson for completing the first year of the SC Financial Literacy Master Teacher (SCFLMT) program, and to our Magnet Lead Teacher Sarah Ostergaard for completing the entire 3-year program and being named a SC Financial Literacy Master Teacher! This program is offered through the SC Treasurer's Office and the SC Council on Economic Education.
In order to become an SCFLMT, all applicants must complete specific professional development classes, as well as create and teach professional development training for their peers over three years. Applicants must also pass the W!SE Personal Finance Certification Test for Educators. W!SE is a nationally recognized credential, certifying that educators demonstrate the proficiency required to teach personal finance.

Please complete our school climate survey via the ParentPortal in PowerSchool. Please consider the school year as a whole as you complete the survey. To access the survey, first access PowerSchool via a desktop/laptop. On the left side of the screen, you will see "Forms" under the Navigation heading. After you click "Forms," you will be taken to a new screen and will click on "Parent School Climate Survey." This should only take a few minutes to complete.

Senior Walks at LR5 Elementary Schools

1) Check the Calendar to make sure you are up to date - pay your fees, turn in required items, make up seat time, etc.
2) Email Ms. Whipple (mailto:kwhipple@lexrich5.org) to schedule a time to pick up your stoles if needed - $12 EXACT CASH only.
3) Make sure to record your FULL name and submit the form for Coach Railey to say your names correctly at Graduation.
4) If you are an IB student in the Class of 2022 and did not attend the IB Class of 2022 celebration in early May, see Mrs. Ostergaard to receive your IB cords, IB stole, and alumni pin.

Medication Pickup
Message from Nurse Powell: Thank you for allowing me to help with your child’s health needs at school. The end of the year is almost here and we are making preparations for the closing of the health room. If your child has medication here at school, a parent or a guardian will need to pick it up before the health room closes. Please stop by the health room to pick up your child’s medication by June 2, 2022. For any questions or concerns please contact Nurse Powell at 803-476-3000.
Note: For safety reasons, we don’t send medication home with students and medication cannot be stored over summer. Any medications remaining will have to be discarded according to District 5 policy.

Class of 2022 -- Important Information for YOU
Final Transcript Request
All members of the graduating Class of 2022 who are college bound MUST request that their final transcript be sent via parchment. This can be done by doing the following:
- Log into your parchment.com account or create your account
- Click order
- Select college/university you will be attending
- Choose the “Hold for final grades” option
Not completing this step could delay the awarding of state scholarships and/or college/university course registration.
Post Secondary Plans Questionnaire
Each year the Irmo High School Counseling Department is responsible for reporting information on the post secondary plans for graduating students. In order to successfully report this information please complete the Post Graduation Questionnaire.
The submission of this form is required for graduation clearance. The deadline to complete this is May 24, 2022 The form can be accessed here, or on the School Counseling website. This must be completed for students to be cleared for graduation.

Track & Field -- The Road to State!
IHS Track and Field competed hard at the Upper State Meet last weekend! Our athletes accomplished many personal records.
Makayla Grant is the 4A Region Champion again in the triple jump! She competes in the State Championship on Saturday.

No more Late Start Wednesdays
There are no more late starts for the rest of the 2021-2022 academic year.
EOC (End-of-Course) Testing
The Education Accountability Act of 1998 requires the development of end-of-course examinations in gateway or benchmark courses which include Algebra 1, English 2, U.S. History and the Constitution, and Biology 1. The EOC tests will be administered during May, and the student’s score counts as 20 percent of the student’s final grade.
Please take time to discuss the importance of these assessments and exams with your student. Also, please be sure your child has had a good night’s rest, eats a healthy breakfast so that they are ready to do their best on testing days, and arrives early to school on these dates.

Class of 2022 -- Scholarship Award Reporting is Important!
The School Counseling Department needs your help! Scholarship awards received by graduating seniors need to be documented. We want to celebrate your successes and to accurately report scholarship awards ( Academic, Athletic, Military or Other) for the Class of 2022.
Please use your student Google email account when adding your scholarship awards. The name and photo associated with your Google account will allow us to follow up with you if additional information is needed.
You will also be asked to upload a copy of the actual award letter or email. Please print to PDF or take a screenshot and upload.

Important Information from our Attendance Office
Parents/guardians are asked to email Ms. Menger at emenger@lexrich5.org.
The attendance office opens at 7AM and closes promptly at 3:15PM every day.
There will be no dismissals after 3:15PM.

Revised Tardy Policy as of January 12, 2022
Being tardy means arriving late to class. Students who arrive late to class miss out on important learning opportunities and interrupt class.
When a student has tardies, these are the following consequences:
- 1-5 tardies: admin conference or 1 lunch detention
- 6-10 tardies: 2-3 lunch detentions and parent contact
- 11-15 tardies: 1/2 day ISS and/or parent conference
- 15+ tardies: full day ISS and parent conference
Chromebook Support - The Tech Nest is here to help!
Students, need a Chromebook repaired? Come to the Tech Nest in the Media Center between 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm Monday through Thursday.
Online Lunch Application is Needed to Receive Other Benefits
Breakfast and lunch for students will be provided at no cost during the 2021–2022 school year.
Eligible families are encouraged, however, to complete the online meal applications for the 2021–2022 school year, which determines eligibility for other benefits, including P-EBT funding, scholarships, reduction in school fees, camp fees waived or reduced, ACT/SAT fees waived or reduced, etc. Families may complete the online meal applications at www.lunchapplication.com.
