Mann Behavior Expectations
CLICK ON THE IMAGE (to the right) TO ACCESS OUR BEHAVIOR MATRIX
This document outlines our behavior expectations for every area of the building.
Teachers will begin teaching these expectations to our students during the first week of school and will continue to reteach these expectations throughout the school year.
Feel free to review these expectations with your child at home to help reinforce positive choices while at school.
A Note from Principal Payne . . .
We are off to a great start and the beginning of the school year is going smooth. We are so excited to have students back in our building and be back to the teaching and learning that we love and have missed so much. Thank you to each of you and your families for the positivity, flexiblitity, patience and grace as we navigate this new schedule.
I have to brag on our staff for the work they have done to ensure that new routines and procedures are in place and students are kept safe and heathly while here at school. I have to brag also on the learning they have done to create the best experience possible for your students while they are seated, virtual and learning at home. Remember that on virtual Wednesdays and At-Home learning days, it is important to have your students log into Canvas to check out their daily announcement and checklist for each day's success.
I have to brag on our students for their resilience as they come to school each day in this new environment, masked-up and respecting others' space. They have been troopers as we navigate this new reduced-capacity model of school and I couldn't be more proud of them. I know that this is thanks to the work that you all have done with them at home and for this I thank you.
I do have some favors to ask in making the morning and afternoon carline run as smoothly as possible:
In the morning, please be patient. Patience is key in keeping our students and staff safe. With this, please wait your turn and only unload at numbers 1-8 and back to the glass APR door where Coach typically is stationed. Please do not get out of your car while in the carline. Students should be packed up and ready to exit the car when it is time to do so. If you need to get out to assist them, you need to park in a parking space to avoid carline congestion. Please do not cut through the parking lot by the school dumpsters. You need to go all the way down and exit within the line of traffic to avoid collisions.
In the afternoon, yellow car tags indicate kindergarten pickups only. Yellow tags are able to go to the front of the carline line, around the others for kindergarten pick up starting at 3:35PM. Pink car tags indicate all other car riders. The normal, 3:45PM, carline begins parallel with the glass APR doors. Please keep your car tag visible, hanging from your car rearview mirror, from the time you enter the carline until the time your child enters your vehicle. This helps not only the person getting names, but also those directing students and helping to load cars.
Thank you so much for your work with this in helping to make these procedures run as smoothly as possible.

8:45AM - Tardy bell rings and our school day officially begins
- All students arriving after this time must enter the building through the main office

Breakfast and Lunch Updates
If your child is eating breakfast at school, please have them here promptly at 8:30AM. They will pick up their breakfast from the cafeteria and eat it in their classroom. Breakfast for all students is free here at Mann.
Students will eat lunch in the cafeteria and will be spread out at their assigned lunch table. Lunch tables will be fully sanitized between lunch periods. Lunches will be served in an individually packaged "grab and go" bag, but some choices will still be available for students to make. This year's full lunch price is $2.75.
Visitors & Volunteers
In order to increase safety, the district has determined that all visitors into the building must be for educational purposes only (such as practicum students from the local universities). Until further notice, no other visitors will be permitted into the building.
Mann Communication:
Blue Take Home Folders - These will go to and from school with your child each day.
Monthly Newsletters - This is a joint communication effort delivered by Principal Payne and Mann PTA. This communication helps to keep families up-to-date on what is happening here at Mann, as well as important upcoming events.
Ways to stay connected:
- Mann Twitter Account - @MannEaglesSPS
- Springfield Public Schools Website
Additionally, all staff members can be reached by email. Teachers may also set up their own lines of communication through Dojo, SeeSaw, etc.

Mann PTA Memberships . . .
This year might look a little different, but Mann PTA is still here! It is our desire as a PTA to help create a positive environment and relationship between Mann teachers, students, and families. Joining the PTA is a great way to become an active part of your child’s academic journey and to stay in-the-know on what’s happening at school. It is also a great way to connect with the principal, teachers, parents, and students.
In a typical year we host several family-friendly events and hold fundraisers throughout the year to help raise money for needed supplies and resources for the school. We are limited on what we can do this year, but we still need members to help make PTA possible. It is easy to get involved! Turn in the PTA membership form along with the $5 membership dues, or sign up online at horacemannpta.square.site.
We look forward to seeing you at our first meeting on Thursday, September 17, at 6pm, in the Mann APR. Follow our Facebook page at HoraceMannElementaryPTA or visit our website at //teammannpta.wixsite.com/horacemann to stay updated on what we have going on.
Please remember to WASH YOUR MASKS!!
