All positions are open. Submissions must be sent to NAHJ South Florida by Jan. 7, 2015.

Those interested should send short bio, paragraph of intent and photo to nahjmiami@gmail.com. Include in subject line which position you are applying for. Voting by chapter members will begin in mid January.


1. President

Term is one year, starting immediately after elections. Develop and execute a dynamic array of training, workshops, panels and other events. Carry out requirements to maintain chapter certification, with the exception of submitting the annual budget and financial reports; Make statements on behalf of the chapter and preside at most chapter events. Serve as the primary contact person for potential members. Work with chapter leaders to recruit new members and retain existing members. Be acquainted with most chapter members and work to meet their needs within the NAHJ mission. It is often the president’s vision that guides the programming at the chapter level and helps develop the national organization through chapter work. Keep members informed of chapter activities through newsletters, e-mails, fliers or other mechanisms.


2. Vice President Print and Online Media

Term is one year, starting immediately after elections. In the absence of the president, one of the vice presidents will perform all duties of the president. The print and online media vice president will help develop programming to meet the needs of members working in the print and online news industry, while the broadcast vice president will do the same for those working in television. Participate in NAHJ South Florida events and board meetings. Assist the president and complete other duties as may be prescribed by the chapter board.


3. Vice President Broadcast (Radio and Television)

Term is one year, starting immediately after elections. In the absence of the president, one of the vice presidents will perform all duties of the president. The print and online media vice president will help develop programming to meet the needs of members working in the print and online news industry, while the broadcast vice president will do the same for those working in television. Participate in NAHJ South Florida events and board meetings. Assist the president and complete other duties as may be prescribed by the chapter board.


4. Social Media Director

Term is one year, starting immediately after elections. Maintain the chapter’s website, Facebook and Twitter accounts on a daily basis. Regularly update sites with job positions, member news and noteworthy stories. Engage members in online conversation about topics related to journalism coverage, ethics and the news industry. Participate in NAHJ South Florida events and board meetings.

5. Treasurer/Secretary (1 position)

Term is one year, starting immediately after elections. Responsible for submitting an annual chapter budget to the national office and completing annual financial reports. Take minutes at meetings and send them to chapter leaders and members. Greet attendees at NAHJ events and asking them to sign in and make a nametag. Assist in writing chapter newsletters, e-mails or other communications. Help create fliers, signs or other communication pieces for the chapter as needed. Participate in NAHJ South Florida events and board meetings.


6. & 7. At Large (2 positions)

Term is one year, starting immediately after elections. Helps board with large projects, such as donation drives or reaching out to members. Attend board meetings and participate in event programming. Will be assigned specific roles as necessary.

NAHJ South Florida represents members in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Our goal is to provide journalists with opportunities to network, sharpen their skills, enhance conversation and understanding of issues impacting the Latino community, and promote the hiring and retention of Latino journalists at all levels of news reporting and management.
