V vs. Murrow
In the world we tend to accept things that make us content. That being said influential people tend to say things that make people happy because the people want to hear that. It gives them a sense of comfort so that there is order. We don’t want to accept the truth and reality.
In V’s speech, he is trying to tell the British people that the government is corrupt and that he knows that they know but they want to live comfortably. He says “I know you are afraid. Who wouldn’t be, War, terror, disease’’. He’s saying that we are to blame because of the fear and negative out come of it. Why live in fear when we can just live “ in the comforts of everyday routine”. He also says ”I sought to end the silence” “ I want to remind this country of what it has forgotten”. He’s basically saying that he felt like it was duty to say something. “ If you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me from one year from tonight.” He wants everyone who agrees with him to help him change the ways.
In Murrow speech he didn’t like how the audience (world) just wanted to hear the positive things. They didn’t want to hear the truth because they live a “ comfortable and wealthy” life. “ We have built an allergy to unpleasant or disturbing information” We choose to block out the negative and just hear the optimism. We don’t want to hear the reality of the truth. “ To say those who say people wouldn’t look, they wouldn’t be interested, insulated “. He’s saying that he wants people to hear the truth and for whoever thinks they don’t need a reality check.
Murrow and V are similar in that they want people to wake up. They want justice for the injustice. They are different because V wants them to physically go against them. He wants them to remember the past so they don’t live in mistreatment. Murrow just wants them to mentally go against them. He wants them to know what’s right and what’s wrong.
