Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
Parents, did you know March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month? Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in the United States and the second leading cause of death from cancer. Colorectal cancer affects people in all racial and ethnic groups and is most often found in people age 50 and older.
Fortunately, if everyone age 50 and older were screened regularly, 6 out of 10 deaths from colorectal cancer could be prevented. Communities, health professionals, and families can work together to encourage people to get screened.
How can Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month make a difference?
Here are just a few ideas:
- Encourage families to get active together – exercise may help reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.
- Talk to family, friends, and people in your community about the importance of getting screened for colorectal cancer starting at age 50.
- Encourage people over 50 to use this interactive tool to decide which colorectal cancer screening test they prefer.
- Ask doctors and nurses to talk to patients age 50 and older about the importance of getting screened.
Physical Education
This month in Physical Education students will participate in a variety of cooperative games, such as stations, soccer and parachutes.
Each activity will help students develop muscular strength, cardio vascular endurance as well as positive self-management.
Technology in Physical Education
Eat-O-Matic...This app is easy to navigate and fun to play around with. It is great for kids and adults alike. It shows you the amount of calories in the foods you eat and the specific amount of exercise needed to burn equivalent amount of calories.
It’s hard to know the work required to burn off a certain food you consume, this app helps with that.
