A Message from Principal Boucher
SLPHS Families,
As we launch into trimester 2 this week, I want to provide a couple of updates and reminders, but first some appreciation. . .
Our collective path through the 2020-21 school year has certainly been unique, but what has not been unique is the amount of flexibility and support all members our school community (students, teachers/staff, parents) demonstrated throughout trimester 1. Together we’ve worked to make the best of undesireable circumstances. I look forward to the partnership and collaboration continuing throughout the remainder of the school year.
Attendance
A couple of reminders about attendance while we are in Extended Flexible Learning (distance learning):
- Attendance, at the secondary level, is taken and recorded at the end of each period based on student attendance in the "live" session for the period. We are following up with any student experiencing frequent absences to identify and resolve access concerns or other barriers to participating in instruction.
- Parents are asked to continue to call the attendance line, 763-600-5109, to report a student absence, whether that is participation in "live" sessions and/or completing the daily work expectations.
Trimester 1 Final Grades
We will report on student learning progress at the end of the trimester. Students and families will be able to see/access final grades through Campus Parent Portal on Wednesday, December 16.
We continue to track COVID-19 cases in our community and work with our regional public health experts to be good partners to all in our community. As we get closer to winter break – which begins on December 23 - we will update families on the plan for returning to learning after break on January 4, 2021. Thanks for your partnership and patience.
One School, one Community, united and #SLPPantherProud!

Trimester 1 Secondary Report Cards (Grades 6-12) - Reporting on student learning during COVID-19 and extended flexible learning
Report cards are just one of many ways that we report on student learning throughout the year. Report card grades reflect student learning, and teachers look at evidence of learning, over time, to determine where students are at in their learning at the time of report cards.
- Course grades for Trimester 1 are based on student learning for academic outcomes that were designated in the Trimester 1 overview, developed for each course at Grades 6-12 and shared with students and families in Schoology at the beginning of the trimester.
- Students will receive a grade of NY (Not Yet) for any year-long courses where they have submitted evidence of learning but have not demonstrated proficiency in their learning to result in a grade of A, B, C, or D. Grades of NY will replace an F for Trimester 1 for year-long courses.
- Students will receive a grade of NE (No Evidence) for any year-long courses where they have submitted no or limited evidence of learning in Trimester 1.
- Students who receive grades of NY or NE during Trimester 1 will continue to work with their teachers on demonstrating their learning for the course outcomes. Once students demonstrate proficiency report card grades of NY or NE will be updated.
Trimester 1 final grades will be available beginning Wednesday, December 16 and can be accessed through Campus Parent Portal. Watch a video tutorial on how to access your student’s report card.
Continue to report COVID-19 symptoms, positive cases during distance learning
Although our learning model has shifted to distance learning for the time being, it is vital that you continue to call the Health Office at 763-600-5104 to report any positive cases of COVID-19, close contact exposures to any positive cases of COVID-19, and signs or symptoms of illness that you may have in your household.
This information allows us to prioritize safety when we transition back into the hybrid learning environment by adhering to Minnesota Department of Health guidelines for quarantine and isolation, thereby limiting the spread of the virus.
As a reminder, Minnesota also has testing availability. Here is some additional information about available testing:
- At-home COVID-19 saliva testing - Minnesota offers free, at-home COVID-19 saliva testing for people who believe they need to be tested, with or without symptoms. Right now, families can order up to five test kits per household. Families will be asked if they have insurance, but the state will cover the costs for any uninsured or underinsured families. You should not receive a bill using this testing option. Order your at-home test here.
- COVID-19 community testing sites - All COVID-19 testing is free at Minnesota Department of Health community testing events. We are always planning more community testing events across the state, working together with communities to make sure everyone can get tested. Tests are free for everyone, and no identification or insurance is required.
