The Penguins are coming
Southwest ISD is proud to announce the establishment of the first chapter of the Penguin Project
in Bexar County. The program provides a supportive environment for children with disabilities
to explore their creative talents. It has also demonstrated that participation in the performing arts
has therapeutic value by enhancing social interaction, communication skills, self-confidence and
self-esteem. The impact of the program has reached beyond the stage, to create a social network
for children who previously had very few friends and limited social opportunities.
Through the Penguin Project students with special needs will have the opportunity to take the
stage to perform a modified version of a well-known Broadway musical. Southwest ISD is
planning to hold its first production in 2022.

SWHS Student Takes First Place at Blinn College Ag Mech Show
Southwest High School student Alejandro Garza nabbed first place in Class 16 and second place in the Cutting Torch contest at the Blinn College Ag Mech Show. The cutting contest was stiff competition and extremely fun to watch. Students went head to head to test their cutting ability in an elimination bracket style race. They narrowed the competition from 80 students to 16, then 4, then the final 2. Way to go!
