Average Day:
- An average day for a mechanical engineer would be to research, develop, design, manufacture, or maintain devices that either produce or consume power. Mechanical engineers also oversee the manufacturing of many products.
Education Required:
- At least a bachelors degree is needed to become a mechanical engineer. Although a graduate degree is usually needed to acquire a managerial position.
Starting Salary:
- The average starting wage for a mechanical engineer is $53,210. The top 10% of mechanical engineers make as much as $126,430.
What is Mechanical Engineering?
Mechanical engineering is the branch of engineering that pertains to the improvement and maintenance of devices that either produce or consume power. Someone might want to go into the mechanical field of engineering because they want to improve peoples quality of life. Others might also want to go into the field because of the good starting salary and the ability for growth to higher paying jobs.
