The Falcon Flyer

Weekly News and Updates - Volume 1 Issue 36

Flying Until the End

Falcon families, we have reached the end of our final full week of school. Thank you for all of your tireless dedication to our students week in and week out. This is also the last full issue of the Falcon Flyer for the year. It's been quite a journey, and we hope you've found these weekly updates both informational and entertaining. We started with 110 views on the first issue back in January to now averaging 204 per week! Our message has been heard in 20 different US states, and four different countries. We are... World Famous.

We ended our final full week of classes with Field Day on Monday where all students rotated through stations enjoying additional time on our playground, jumping rope, hula hooping, hurdling, and racing each other in a relay.

Today we honored our 5th graders with two separate promotion ceremonies. The first ceremony was online allowing for participation from all family members. We featured two student speakers and words of wisdom for our promoting class from Mrs. Lee, Mrs. Fortune, and Mr. Friedenberg. Shortly thereafter, we held a drive-through certificate reception celebration where our students paraded in their cars through a balloon arch, cheered on by staff, and received their certificates in person. It was a truly special end to an unprecedented year.

As a final reminder, all students are required to attend school on Monday and Tuesday next week. Although the last day of school is typically a minimum day, this is not a typical year (to say the least). We will still be ending at 1:30PM.

Lastly, we are ecstatic to officially introduce Amber Merrill as our permanent Building Support Supervisor (BSS) and Sarah Myers as our Elementary School Assistant (ESA). Amber has been serving as our BSS in a relief role (non-permanent) all year. We are so grateful to be able to benefit from her outstanding service for the foreseeable future. Sarah Myers will be joining us from University City High School where she served for a number of years as the Principal's Secretary with Jeff Olivero, who is retiring this year. Sarah brings with her a wealth of tech skills, positivity, and systems thinking mindset. We look forward to launching the 2021-22 school year with both Amber and Sarah being part of the Falcon Family.

We couldn't have made this year as successful as it was without you. Thank you again for everything. Read on for highlight reels from both Field Day and Promotion!

Staff Standout - Mrs. Elaine Irby

Our final staff standout of the year is none other than Mrs. Elaine Irby, our PrimeTime supervisor. Mrs. Irby has been in charge of our before/after school program at Fletcher for 11 years, and before that was part of the program at Jackson-Faye Elementary for 10 years. Prior to becoming involved with Harmonium, the group that coordinates before/after school supervision, Mrs. Irby worked in electronics procurement and is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of New York and Fashion Career College in San Diego. Mrs. Irby's favorite part of working with students is seeing their expressions when they realize they can do something they've worked hard to achieve. The "ahah" moment, as she calls it, brings her immense joy. We are so incredibly fortunate to have Mrs. Irby on our team at Fletcher Elementary! Thank you Mrs. Irby for all you do!
